When did "gifted" as a verb become a Thing?
I mean, really, WTF?
When did "gifted" replace "gave," that good old English word? It had to be some RW Conspiracy Nutjob. Probably Hannity or some jackass like that.
If I gave you a present, then I gave it to you. It was a present. From me to you. A gift. Yes. A gift from me to you.
I didn't "gifted" it to you: I GAVE it to you.
Yes, I do understand vernacular. If enough people misuse a language, the language changes so that the illiteracy becomes literate. This is why the French have a whole organization to prevent the Anglicization (and other abominations) of their language.
This is also why Latin turned into Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Maybe someone else can provide evidence that this change from "gave" to "gifted" arose spontaneously and naturally. Until then, it doesn't sound like it to me.
It sounds like something Hallmark would come up with.
Just saying.
Because, Jeez, I hate/loathe/despise that usage...and I see it more and more.
WTF?
