More accurately - Is This America under police tyranny today?
The nation, well at least the media, has started to pay attention to the numerous shootings (murders) by police of young black males. The DOJ investigated and then released a 105 page report about the ills of the Ferguson Police Department (read: racism run amok!) and stated that the state of affairs of the Ferguson Police Department and it's treatment of blacks is not uncommon for police departments across the nation.
This morning I read an article about a 32 year old, extremely successful young black woman that was stopped by the NYPD in Harlem, for suspicion of driving while under the influence of marijuana. The PD issued a ticket to Ms. Brock and then impounded her vehicle, a new BMW. It didn't matter to the two NYPD officers that the young woman, Kam Brock, a former Citigroup banker from Long Island, was minding her own business while driving black and successful through Harlem. Please note that no drugs were ever found in her car.
The next day things devolved rapidly and became quite surreal. Ms. Brock went to the Harlem PD to lodge a complaint against the officers for their treatment and instead....wait for it.....wait...she was sedated and knocked unconscious and ended up in a mental ward, drugged repeatedly by hospital personnel for 8 days.
Why, one might ask? Apparently the two arresting officers and the staff psychiatrists just could not believe that Ms. Brock was a successful NY City banker. The police officers and hospital personnel all believed the young woman to be delusional. I mean, exactly how can any young black woman actually be an accomplished banker in the lily white world of finance, right?
The sad thing is no one - not the NYPD nor anyone at the hospital took the time to verify the young woman's identity and claims. Instead, "Medical records show that for eight days, she was forced to attend group therapy, suffer injections of heavy sedatives, and swallow lorazepram and lithium pills – all [occurred] in efforts to have her deny her own life story."
Harlem Hospital's treatment plan for Ms Brock: "
“Objective: Patient will verbalize the importance of education for employment and will state that Obama is not following her on Twitter,” and “patient’s weaknesses: inability to test reality, unemployment.”
"When she was finally released, no apologies were made for the mistake. Instead, she was handed a $13,000 medical bill."
It's undeniable that its hard being black in America, especially if you are poor. But now it appears just as dangerous to be extremely successful, young black and female in New York City as well. Who would of thought something like this could happen in the good ole USofA?
Currently, US police departments are not allowed to inject suspects with drugs to "calm the subject down". But it's interesting to note that police departments across the US are advocating to allow police officer the right to inject suspects with drugs for the sole purpose of control.
Hmmm, makes you kind of wonder what Americans feared about the Red Menace known as communism in the not distant past? We're ceding our rights to police officers, sworn to protect and serve, when in fact we, and I mean all Americans, white, black, et al, are perceived as "the enemy" regardless of station or race.
There is only one question that needs to be answered: what the hell is going on?
