The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note of any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.
I have chronicled the resident pair of Bald Eagles that share my property in comments in several diarys here at the Bucket.
This diary is I hope, a continuation of their story.
This is the family with the two youngsters that fledged here last year. This photo was taken 7/18/'14. This was the last time I saw them together.
This is a crop, I called this one 'blonde kid
and this one 'brown kid"
This young eagle showed up alone in October '14, I thought he had a resemblance to 'brown kid'. But it was a dark and drizzly day and no real evidence from a pic this bad.
This one was taken March 13 this year, again a back lit and dark day. Looks a
little like brown kid, maybe
The flyer here is the other candidate, look just a bit blonde? The two Juveniles were obviously acquainted, the flyer landed on top of the one roosting and there was no tussle involved. (I thought I had enough bad pics up already)
There were two Adults, one left before I could get the camera out. I've always heard that Eagles are on there own after their first year, and that survival rates were very low for first year Bald Eagles. These two were apparently being looked over by two adult eagles. Have I been mistaken? Does parental care last much longer than the time it takes for the youngsters to learn to fly? ( I've always believed it didn't) Or do they go on their own after the parents start nesting again?
