I live in a horrible place if you happen to have metal in your back as I do or bad sinuses or arthritis or anything else that can cause your joints to swell. This last week has been a literal Hell for me. We have been riding the Mother Nature Roller Coaster. Before my back went Kaput I loved roller coasters. We actually took vacations to amusement parks to try new roller coasters but I hate Mother Nature's roller coaster. Up and down goes the temps and that brings on the pain. Wednesday we hit the low 70's and by Thursday morning it was wet and cold in the high 30's. I was ready to scream.
I happen to live in Louisville Ky. It's a great city, not too big and not too small. It has a great feel to it though to be perfectly honest I do not take much advantage of it. I much more of a home body. Even without my back I would prefer to spend an evening reading a good book. I have had my fill of nightlife when I was much younger. The only real bad thing about this city is the weather.
We live in the Ohio Valley and that affects weather patterns. We have just two seasons here unlike in some other areas that have four. We have summer and not summer.Summer does not start in June here. It is more like late March but can even make an appearance in January and February. We have had 80 degree days in both months. Our summer is marked by high temperatures, mostly in the 90's and extremely high humidity. Sometimes we actually get lucky and it doesn't get up to the 90's too often but we still have that darn high humidity. That sucks the life out of you. In the summer I love to go to the pool and swim. It is great exercise for me. It's not a good thing to get out of the pool and you feel wetter than when you were in it. There are plenty of days when you can see the humidity it is so thick. Normally our summer sticks around until late October. My wonderful wife and I wanted to have an outdoor wedding at a state park that holds a lot of meaning for her family. We decided against it because we didn't want our guests passing out from the heat. This is for late September and it was a good call. It was well over 90 on our wedding day.
Now come late October or early November we have our next season called not summer. This season is marked by temperatures not in the 90's or high 80's and much less humidity. It also has the wonderful ability to go from freezing to mid 60's in a day. It is a rare Christmas when it is white. More often we have a brownish green Christmas. Oh what fun. Makes it a bit hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it isn't snowing. I know Christmas spirit is inside of us and doesn't need snow. BS they just say that in the south so you don't feel so bad about it not snowing for Christmas.
Let's jump down below that orange jungle gym for some more of our wonderful weather.
We have such great weather here. I dream of moving to someplace like Michigan or Wisconsin that has a normal 4 season weather pattern. I hate the high humidity, it causes my back to hurt more than normal. I would love a summer in the 70's and maybe the occassional 80's. That would be a huge blessing for my back. Just walking out of my house starts the pain. I kind of hibernate during the summer, staying inside as much as possible in the wonderful air conditioning. This helps to keep my back from screaming. Instead it keeps it as a dull throbbing ache. Then we get the not summer roller coaster from Mother Nature and we are off on the up and down repeatedly through not summer. These great temperature changes hurt a lot. I hate them. They leave me crying from the pain even with my pain meds.
I dream of a nice slow warm up in spring from a winter that got cold and stayed cold. Cold doesn't bother me much at all. The back just kind of aches through it, a nice low throb compared to normal around here. I dream of a summer where it is warm but not nasty hot and no high humidity. I dream of a fall that starts to get chilly in September and gradually brings the temperature down until we get to winter. Gradual changes are much, much better they do not cause me to scream and cry.
I wish I could move. That isn't really possible unless I hit the lottery or something. Thanks to republicans I will probably have to work until I am at least 75 or later before qualifying for Social Security if they don't completely kill it in the pursuit of destroying every part of the social safety net while providing a secure no tax future for the 1%. I am hoping my back will hold out until then. If not the future is not too bright, trying to live on what SSI disability pays is just about impossible and even getting approved is at least a 2 year process. So I dream on. Maybe Mother Nature will level out but I doubt it. Global warming promises more hot summers to come.
