Some valuable diaries have been republished at KosA recently - scroll down after this UpSched to see them - & remember it's never too late to RECOMMEND a diary so more folks who need it may get a better chance of finding it. RECOMMEND is a small, easy form of activism serving public health that we all can do to help each other and beyond..
Tags on Upcoming Schedules replicate tags for content of scheduled diaries. DK has probably only one Tag Librarian currently active and over-run, so TAGGERS PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL TO CAPITALIZE EVERY WORD IN TAG PHRASES other than "or", "and", "etc", — see this diary and this one for guidance.
April 5 - OPEN THREAD NIGHT & POTLUCK: "Amazing (not) words like 'amazing'!" by postmodernista
April 12 - "The Vicious Circle: Care Giving, Stress, Headaches, and Insomnia" by michelewin
"In this diary I'll be talking about care giving and the stress that comes from being a caregiver which results in stress headaches which in turn causes sleep problems and insomnia which then triggers more stress and more stress headaches. I'll explore the frustrations and trying to figure out how to break the circle."
April 19 - "Psychosomatic Disorders Are Real" - the psychosomatic label used to mean "it's all in your mind/imagination" - now we know better by NancyWH, R.N.
"In Part 1, we look at the Mind-Body Connection. Adrenaline and cortisol are important and helpful parts of the body’s response to stress. However, it’s important that the body’s relaxation response be activated so the body’s functions can return to normal following a stressful event. Chronic stress disrupts the ability to return to a more relaxed state, and can have adverse effect on health.
In Part 2, we look at the Brain-Gut connection. A "gut feeling" is not just a cliche. Psychology combines with physical factors to cause pain and other bowel symptoms. That doesn’t mean, however, that functional gastrointestinal illnesses are imagined or “all in your head.” Psychosocial factors influence the actual physiology of the gut, or make you more susceptible to infection."

KosAbility is a Sunday volunteer diarist com- munity of, by & for people living with disabilities, who love someone with a disability, or who want to know more about the issues. By disability we mean temporary and permanent health/medical conditions — from small, gnawing problems to major, life-threatening ones. Our use of love someone extends to cherished members of other species. Our discussions are open threads in the context of this community. Feel free to comment on diary topics, ask questions, share something you've learned, tell bad jokes, post photos, or rage about your situation. Our only rule is to be kind; trolls will be spayed or neutered. |
