Come oh come ye tea-thirsty restless ones -- the kettle boils, bubbles and sings, musically. ~ Rabindranath Tagore
Good evening, Kibitzers! Maybe you know JeffLieber from Daily Kos, where he's been writing hilarious and pointed political snark (and some very funny personal stories) since 2004. You might also know that Jeffrey Lieber is a writer of TV series and movies. His latest project is his work as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner on CBS's NCIS New Orleans. (See photos of the executive producers with the cast here and here.)
So, last week Jeff found time to post on Daily Kos about the events in Indiana, and his fans were glad to see him. There was discussion about how some of us waved to his screen credits on #NCISNola, and suddenly, there was an offer from Jeff to "pop in" should we liveblog the show.
This is that liveblog. Since KTK posts an hour before the show's east-coast airtime, the rest of this diary is decorated with some of Jeff's tweets and a clip or two from YouTube. After 9 pm Eastern, I'll theoretically add diary updates, which should appear beneath the sunset box of series boilerplate below, keeping track of tonight's episode unfolding. If you live in the west and don't want to know, don't look there! However, I cannot protect you from discussion in the thread, including potential "popping in" on the part of Jeff, since that's sort of the point. Also, please welcome my co-host, Onomastic, whose accidental idea this was.
Oh! And on the off chance that you're entirely unfamiliar with this suite of CBS series: the New Orleans office of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service looks into crimes in the region that in any way involve the Navy or Marine Corps. Details and characters here. (FWIW, I really like the characters, and I find the stories a cut above many you can see on network TV. I am caregiver to my dad, so I do see some old-man cop shows; this is not one.)
Jeff gets to talk at about 2:45:

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.

Here be
dragons spoilers:
6:04 PM PT: So, a sailor drops dead while arriving at the airport...
Coming from a charter flight from Havana.
...aaaand, there's the wave to Jeff!
6:06 PM PT: His buddy shows up at the morgue, wanting the body. He really wants the body. "Pulls a gun" wanting of the body. Cut to commercial!
6:11 PM PT: He's getting the body packed to go. Meanwhile, they're phoning Loretta but oddly, she's not picking up.
6:14 PM PT: He lets Loretta answer the phone. Now, because of her code word, Pride knows it's a hostage situation. They're rolling the body to the door...
6:18 PM PT: That didn't go so well. Back locked into the morgue, and now Danny has a bullet wound.
They still have no idea why the dead Petty Officer came to town. His CO vouches for his good character.
6:22 PM PT: Now Pride has him on the phone... Well, that didn't go so well either.
6:25 PM PT: She's cool. She talks the hostage-taker into giving her a scalpel. This must be what they learn at Harvard (says Yale).
6:27 PM PT: Now she's talking Sebastian through doing the emergency surgery on Danny, because she's injured. I love this character (even if she DID go to Harvard.)
6:31 PM PT: Meanwhile, LaSalle and Brody go looking for answers. Someone's shooting at them from behind a bulltproof piano...
Aaaand there's a dead girl in the freezer!
6:39 PM PT: Brody speaks Russian! (We know this because it was a Russian doctor shooting from behind the piano.) This doctor extracts stuff from bodies; like, drugs from drug mules. Aha!
Something's hidden in the Petty Officer's body! Sebastian is now having to cut open the body for the hostage-taker. What's in there?
6:42 PM PT: It's a flash drive! Meanwhile, outside, the FBI shows up to take over like a bull in a china shop. (My dad: "FBI. Assholes.")
6:46 PM PT: Oh, man. The assholes from the FBI just had the nerve to say, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."
6:54 PM PT: Pride's going in! Hahahaha, that'll show the FBI. The hostage-taker wants the file about his Navy Seal brother, who died under circumstances the Navy won't disclose to him. Pride has the file. He lets Pride in.
They talk him into letting them bring Danny out. Pride shows him the doc. The brother was betrayed by Syrian rebels.
Here comes the damn FBI. They bust in. Pride and Loretta shield the gunman. No one dies. Yay!!!
6:56 PM PT: Oh, very nice scene at the end!
