A Nuclear Deal with the devil means more than just nuclear rights for a devil—it means you've also legitimized the devil.
Among the chorus of Iranian voices pouring out about the now tentative Nuclear Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran, few are very important. Among those few, even less convey precisely why the West, and hopefuls for a free Iran, should fear the Iran Deal.
“With God’s grace, the revolutionary children of Islamic Iran have succeeded in defending the rights of the Iranian nation and the Iranian nation and the Revolutionary Guards appreciate their honest political efforts,” was that statement made this week by Mohammad Jafari, the Commander of Iran’s Infamous Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC is a military wing which answers directly to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, and is charged with 1) defending and exporting the tenets of the Islamic Revolution, and 2) guarding the honor of the Quran’s word through the lens of radical Shiite Islam handed down by the Ayatollah.
You might ask how this sums it all up—so consider these points.
First and foremost, a Nuclear Deal with the devil means more than just nuclear rights for a devil—it means you’ve also legitimized the devil. This line shows more than patriotic pride in the “Iranian Nation”—he precedes it by conveying that this deal translates to a very real recognition of the radical, pariah Islamic establishment ruling Iran, as the legitimate governing body. This isn’t a victory for Iran—this is a victory for the regressive and anti-West ideals of the Islamic establishment controlling Iran.
For years, those of us who love Iran have been fighting for Regime change—to overthrow this Regime that is a Pariah NOT ONLY for its military nuclear aspirations, but for its abysmal human rights record including its public executions of women, children and LGBTs and its persecution of minorities cultures and faiths, for its calls to genocide, for its lack of adherence to international laws and international norms, and most importantly, for being the leading state-sponsor of international terrorism—in the Middle East, in Africa, in Europe and in the Americas.
The Nuclear issue is but ONE issue that the righteous among the world look down on the Islamic Republic of Iran for. While it isn’t the only issue to scrutinize, it is certainly a defining factor. And when we legitimize that pursuit, and the perverse power pursuing it, we are welcoming a dark future. We might be winning the battle, but we most certainly are losing the war—the war for a better Iran, and a safer world.
