My firstborn is 37. Today is her birthday.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
My granddaughter is back in soccer. Same team, apparently. She had a game yesterday, but I didn't go.
I have a list of the Discworld books that are on Youtube as audiobooks. 21 of the first 26 - I didn't find audiobooks for The Light Fantastic, Equal Rites, Mort, Wyrd Sisters, or Soul Music. There is an animated movie of Wyrd Sisters, but there appears to be only reviews or assorted other commentary for the other four.
We're interviewing high school students from a program that prepares kids to do summer research. There were 57 kids interested in working in our lab. My boss sorted out a dozen and told me to get them down to 5. It was not difficult to decide - I picked the ones who talked about how interested they were in learning in preference to the ones who talked about how lucky we would be to get them. Next year, I'll sort those ones out before I hand anything to my boss. Among the out-of-area applicants were a couple from the Eugene/Springfield area, one from near Bend, one from northwest of Seattle, and one from Oakland, CA. We've had a lot of applicants from Eugene in the past, and even accepted a few of them - the others are a lot farther away than we've ever had before.
Has anybody else noticed the number of articles coming out about recommendations for vitamins and minerals? I can't say I'm particularly surprised - among the things I remember learning in high school is that the recommended amounts were determined by figuring out how much was required to avoid some very nasty deficiency diseases. One that I noticed is that Vitamin D should probably be consumed at about 10 times the current recommendations. Another is that salt can be safely consumed at higher levels by most people than has been recommended - low levels being still recommended by people who have blood pressure problems related to salt intake.
