As one of its many duties, my department at University publishes the course catalog. The faculty submits its course descriptions, and the publications crew enters them into the big database that makes the catalog.
In theory. In practice, this would be unwise. One of the crew passed me one instructor’s course description for a foreign-language class. It began:
“Structure review will be contextualized to support the principal focus of the course, which is vocabulary building…”
But it was put into the catalog as:
“(The course) focuses on vocabulary building...”
As the late Travus T. Hipp used to say: “Sometimes, I wonder… and sometimes, I know.”
