Good Morning Kossacks and Welcome to Morning Open Thread (MOT)
We're known as the MOTley Crew and you can find us here every morning at 0330 am Eastern time. Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanently or just once in awhile. With the Auto Publish feature you can set it and forget it. Sometimes the diarist du jour shows up much later: that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! Volunteer in the comment threads

OK ,so its Thursday! I'm back, laboriously pecking this out so you can start your day right. I know you missed me---who wouldn't?
All thanks to ruby red shoes who not only did so well covering Thursdays SHE WAS MADE A REGULAR WEEKLY MOT DIARIST!!! You don't get any better than THAT!
A lot happened today in History: the first Saturnalia was celebrated in Rome in 497 BC, then in 1538 Pope Paul excommunicated Henry VIII and then in 1862 General Ulysses S. Grant issued General Order No. 11, expelling Jews from parts of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kentucky. ( WTF was up with that?)
For birthdays, lets give a shoutout to Kujō Yoritsugu (1239) Thomas Tickell (1685) Alexander Wassilko von Serecki (1827) and noted pornographer Bob Guccione who'd be 84 today if he hadn't been stoking the fires of perdition lo these past 4 years.
Here's your moment of Zydeco
Don't expect me in until late this morning. 9 1/2 hour flight to Atlanta---after playing 18 holes of golf (score: 95)--4 hour wait in Atlanta, 4 1/2 hour flight to Portland, aalmost 2 hours drive home.
Ta DAAAAA!
So amuse yourself as you always do when I'm not here.
