I have changed my mind about her. Although she will have lingering corporatist tendencies which I will be critical and brutally honest about, she is going to exceed our expectations as president. Furthermore, Elizabeth Warren growing in power and progressives not blindly supporting her will ensure that she is kept in check and that future progressives will be elected to higher offices.
Hillary Clinton knows which way the winds are blowing. Even in the 1990s "corporatist eras", she fought hard for universal health care (even though it failed). She has done so many good things for progressives including SCHIP women's rights, and supports LGBT rights Consitutionally. She is a global advocate for women. Ted Kennedy referred to her as a champion of working people (as flawed as she has been on trade agreements and Wall Street). Lastly, Hillary Clinton will be morally progressive on education (K-12 unlike Obama/Duncan).
2016 is a completely different context with Elizabeth Warren holding her feet to the fire. I know Elizabeth Warren will keep pushing people to the left, including Hillary just like she has been on Obama.
The system is too strong to let Elizabeth Warren beat Clinton. Warren realizes that and knows that. Even though I wish she could be president and she would be the ideal president to have who is as least corporatism as one perfectly can be and should be morally, she is not running. Only when the system changes long-term can we get the "Elizabeth Warren" presidency any country should have.
There will be brutal criticisms of Hillary Clinton likely on certain hawkish matters, drones, civil liberties, and Marijuana. However, she can be held in check on these and they will be "less bad". Progressives will be winning the long game on this eventually.
Hillary Clinton will improve Obamacare and make the healthcare system morally acceptable. Lastly, she can be pushed to hold Wall Street more accountable. Clinton understands the system and will work together with Warren to fight to the death while being realistic with how the system shoots down what progressives want.
I still want a primary and will totally endorse Martin O'Malley or Bernie Sanders to challenge Hillary as well. I know Senator Warren, progressives, and I will challenge her when she spouts morally disagreeable/unacceptable statements. But I know Hillary Clinton will be way better than people will give herself credit for. Will she be progressive-progressive? No way. But I totally accept that and understand why. Once Hillary becomes the nominee (or if a non-Hillary becomes it, I hope that candidate is powerfully supported like Clinton so we have some chance at surviving this election), I will fight hard to ensure a Democratic president is elected. Our Democratic presidents will become more progressive over time. There needs to be long-term structural changes/plans and realistic understanding of what/can't be done.
Let's do this!! Hillary Clinton, Democratic candidates, and all of us progressives, we are in this together!!! Let's beat the republicans once and for all!
