A large group of researchers belonging to the federal government were commissioned to provide evidence to the claim of the government that marijuana has no specific medicinal value. They might have inadvertently slipped some vital research and now they have forced the American government to admit the fact that cannabis can actually kill cancer germs and the whole disease. Although apparently this sudden claim seems to be an April Fool prank from the director of the NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) but soon after watchful investigation, it seemed that the government is indeed supporting a recent study that truly determined that marijuana had the power to get rid of cancer cells.
This particular research was performed by a big team of scientists at St. George’s University of London and they found out that 2 of the most common cannabis in marijuana, cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) played a vital role in weakening the strength of cancer cells and made them m ore vulnerable to the main treatment called the radiation treatment. In fact, this was also published in the medical journal Molecular Cancer Therapies where there were the details of the drastic reductions in the lethal variations of brain cancer when the particular cannabinoids were used with the radiation therapy. The results are indeed promising and it could also offer a way of breaking through the tumors and save more and more lives.
The FDA or the US Food and Drug Administration hasn’t recognized or authorized the plan marijuana as a medicine but scientific study of the chemicals that are present in marijuana, known as cannabinoids has led to 2 FDA-approved medicines that comprise of this in the form of a pill. FDA now believes that continuous and ongoing research on this would lead to more and more medications from this weed. This is indeed an interesting and curious statement, keeping in mind the fact that marijuana has been listed as a Schedule I dangerous drug straight under the Controlled Substances Act. But it may even say that reform of various federal pot laws is definitely on the horizon.
NIDA’s newfangled position is particularly interesting due to a recent proposal which was introduced to both the House of Representatives and the Congress during an attempt to legalize this weed at a national level. A bill was passed which was known as the CARERS Act which requests the government to downgrade the Schedule I status of this weed to at least Schedule II to make the herb more useable in the eyes of the American government. Apart from that, the bill would also do away with cannabidiol, which is the non-intoxicating compound of the plan from the CSA (Controlled Substances Act). They also pleaded to distribute this drug on a state-to-state basis.
According to the Weed Seed Shop (a cannabis store) daily sale percentage of “ganja” (also known as weed, pot, grass, herb, mary jane etc) has been increased after this news flashed on the web and the news magazines.
