In what is suspected to be an attempted "suicide by cop", a police officer exercises restraint. See more below the fold.
In New Richmond, Ohio, a police officer was confronted by a belligerent suspect with a violent criminal history -- and, in a surprise twist when considering recent headlines, fails to shoot him to death.
The officer, Jesse Kidder, drew his weapon and authorities say given the suspect's behavior he would have been justified in shooting the suspect, who repeatedly ignored orders, threatened to kill the officer, and charged at the officer.
Instead, Officer Kidder exercised his judgement and even when the suspect reached into his pockets did not fire, instead watching to see if the suspect actually attempted to draw a weapon, and backing away as the suspect approached him.
It's believed that the incident was an attempt at "suicide by cop", and footage was captured by a body camera purchase by the officer's relatives.
Officer shows 'great restraint' not shooting charging suspect, chief says
The police chief is quoted as saying ""For him to make the judgment call that he did shows great restraint and maturity."
Edit: I'm sure the question will be asked -- from the footage, it appears that the suspect in this instance is white, though his head is blurred out and only his hands are visible at times in the video. If anyone has further info regarding the suspect, feel free to share in the comments.
