I try to do an art piece every year for Earth Day. I grew up as an environmentalist. I have in my heritage three ancestors who have always cherished their lands: Irish, Cherokee, and Scottish. I have always loved Nature and as my diaries show I love photographing it. I am hoping that any new home will be near a park or decorated with trees and flowers. Another influence in my life was starting to read science fiction and fantasy at age eight. In science fiction there are so many stories about the Earth being destroyed by pollution. In fantasy, such as Tolkien, you see species who love the land and will fight for it. If a child can learn early to honor Mother Earth then we have voters of the future who will vote for candidates who take this Earth seriously. I was a second Mom to my niece and I taught her and she in turn taught her three children. This is my tribute to Mother Earth today on Earth Day. It is called Soar.
