And an Italian aid worker. Ho hum.
The latest extrajudicial executions by this President get some minor attention in the American press, as he gallantly "takes full responsibility."
While most Dems and Rethugs fret and posture about gay marriage, this (nominally
"Democratic") administration's continuation of the Bushco War on the US Constitution (or "Terrorism," as they prefer the Orwellian description of it) will end up being the real Obama legacy of his two terms, and makes the ability to reclaim the Democratic Party "brand" ever more elusive for American Progressives.
With the embarrassing rationale that extrajudicial executions by US Presidents are "legal," and Constitutional, because they are “fully consistent with the guidelines” (that sociopaths like Dick Cheney and John Yoo pulled out of their asses) remote control missile strikes and secret commando raids in countries we are not at war with, have tragically increased under a Democratic President.
As with the American military/police/"intelligence" attacks on the Civil Rights of American citizens (and human beings around the world) none of this formerly unconstitutional activity has ever been found Constitutional by the Supreme Court, and is the fabrication of two successive administration's belief that an endless War on Terrorism, and the ability of the President to do whatever he wants to "enemy combatants" (including kidnapping, torturing, and killing Americans, or holding them without trials or access to due process) should be considered "legal."
Instead of turning this outrage around, as we expected, and Obama "promised" before his first election, this administration's affirmation of these scandalous Bushco era "theories" of "war" aimed at ideas and ideology, rather than any actual nation, has now firmly established the precedent that "war" can be easily and "legally" be directed at people anywhere, even Americans, who have the audacity to be political opponents of a sitting US president. (And if it turns out you were somehow an "innocent" victim of these criminal actions, you are now reclassified not as an American Citizen criminally stripped of your human and Constitutional rights, but the most Orwellian concoction of all, mere "Collateral Damage" of a president's personal War).
Today, as if the American and Italian humanitarian worker's deaths were somehow the first innocent people murdered by US drone strikes, we will sniff, and go on about our daily business, as we get more "accustomed" to it.
Like lobsters in a stove pot.
