Are you excited about the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight? Yeah? How about watching it on HBO pay per view since you won’t be able to score a ticket that is sure to cost in the 5 figures.
In a recent New York Times article, it is estimated that the fight will earn hundreds of millions of dollars, and most will go to Manny and Floyd. Over a hundred million dollars each. Good for them. Floyd Mayweather is living the American Dream. And Manny Pacquiao? Manny is living dream that most people in the Philippines can only dream of, or see on television, or at the movies, or in social media.
You see, Manny Pacquiao is also a congressman in the Philippines. Yes, he is. And his wife is also Vice-Governor in the province where he resides.
And in 2014, out of 70 session days of congress, Manny appeared in only 7 sessions. A pitiful 10% attendance record.
And let’s see where Manny stands on social issues…like gay marriage? Pacquiao has made it known at a USA Today article that he disagrees with Obama on the issue of same-sex marriage, and that he believes societies should fear God and should not promote sin or sinful lifestyle.
Manny also vehemently opposed the “Reproductive Health Bill” in the Philippines. A bill which he called “Anti-family and Anti-Life”. This noble bill actually guarantees access to reproductive health to the poor and under-educated people. The intensely debated bill fortunately was passed into Philippine law in 2012. It provides information on fertility control, gives sexual education and maternal care, distributes condoms, birth control pills, IUDS at health care centers in highly urbanized and poor areas of the country. The recipients are mostly the very poor in a country where a vast majority lives in poverty.
And Manny is a tax cheat, he owes the Philippine government over 2 Billion Philippine Pesos in taxes (over 45 Million US Dollars).
After this highly anticipated fight on May 2nd, Manny Pacquiao still plans to run for government office in 2016. However, he mind-boggingly proclaimed that he hopes the people will not vote for him in the election, so he will be spared of the headaches of being a government official.
