Hi Dawn Chorusers — Just an open thread this week (and a reminder that if anyone wants to do a Dawn Chorus they are more than welcome — just post here or send a message to me or Kestrel).
The tern is from a visit to Alligator Point last weekend. Alligator Point is a barrier island that is attached to the mainland at one end. It has fairly deep (by local standards) water close to shore and is a good place to see loons and scoters. It is the only place on the gulf coast where red-throated loons can be found regularly and the nearest place to Tallahassee to see gannets.
I did see a couple of RT Loons but they were too far out for pictures. Unusually there was a gannet sitting on the water.
It was the first time I’d been out there in many months and I had forgotten about the destruction of the main road onto the peninsula by Hurricane Hermine.
Not bird related at all, although we did see a Canada Goose fly over, here’s a scene from the Women’s March in Tallahassee yesterday.
