These are just scattered impressions in the afterglow of yesterday’s victories. Thanks to all of you who called, marched, emailed, and otherwise made an impression on those folks in Washington, DC who work for US. Thank you, thank you!
I’m reaching retirement age and so was a voter during Nixon’s and Reagan’s presidencies. Not so much about Nixon—because he was just bad to the bone—but about Reagan, my friends and I would idly debate whether he was evil or just stupid. We’d go back and forth, but in the harsh and much warmer light of 35 years later, I come down on the side of stupid. (But a tool of much smarter men.)
Two months in with 45, oh. My. God. This president is, for want of a better word, stupid. And not only that but lazy, and with a seemingly very bad case of attention-deficit disorder.
How is 45 stupid? Let me count the ways. First, for not mastering the substance of the American Health Care Act. Second, for thinking that he could negotiate with Congressmen without having mastered the substance of the American Health Care Act. Third, for thinking that he could be a successful President without having the intellect to understand what laws are about. You almost have to go back to the decadent Roman emperors to find a parallel to 45. Missiles for the inaugural parade? Too many conflicts of interest to count? Wasting taxpayer money on weekends and trips yet literally killing people with his planned budget? Let’s not forget he signed an executive order that he didn’t understand. There’s evidence as well that he didn’t understand the AHCA. He repeatedly asked whether it was a good bill. Huh? What president would go play in a truck and miss the fact that the House canceled the vote?
Fourth, for thinking we’re all stupid.
If you are looking for something good to read, try Tyranny in Twenty Lessons by Timothy Snyder. He spoke on Bill Maher’s show last night and said to beware of what could be coming next—the crisis caused by terrorists that will be the ostensible cause of the government yanking our freedoms.
We can’t stop. Our Indivisible groups are working. Let’s go for a single-payer proposal or the bipartisan proposal in Congress now. And oh yes—let’s stop the cruelest and worst budget plan ever. In its tracks.
