If there’s anything we’ve learned by seeing the numerous allegations about sexual harassment and racial discrimination at Fox News (and its willingness to spend millions to protect its abusers), it’s that working for conservatives is as bad as we’d expect. Another recent piece of evidence comes from a new lawsuit filed by Tomi Lahren that alleges that Glenn Beck and The Blaze fired her for being pro-choice.
The New York Times reports:
In a March 17 appearance on the ABC show “The View,” Ms. Lahren, 24, told the hosts that she believed in limited government in all aspects and that she supported the right to have an abortion. “I’m for limited government,” she said, “so stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well.”
...
But her remarks on “The View” did not sit well with executives at The Blaze — a website, TV station and subscription service — and its founder, Mr. Beck, the former Fox News host and radio personality. Her appearance on “The View” aired on a Friday, and on that Sunday, The Blaze said her nightly television show, “Tomi,” would be suspended.
The funny thing is that the people being sued by Lahren are scratching their heads...she’s apparently still on payroll and getting those regular checks. So can a person sue for being fired when they’re not fired yet? From BuzzFeed News:
However, a spokeswoman for The Blaze told BuzzFeed News in a statement that the lawsuit is "puzzling" because the publication still considers Lahren an employee under contract.
"It is puzzling that an employee who remains under contract (and is still being paid) has sued us for being fired, especially when we continue to comply fully with the terms of our agreement with her," the spokeswoman said in the statement.
Claiming the label “Republican” or “conservative” used to at least give us some idea of what values the person purported to have. However, it’s become stunningly clear from a variety of sexual abuse, cheating, and “free speech” scandals that they are simply the party of “do as we say, not as we do.” While I hate to say that Lahren is right, her statements about abortion are true: the GOP obsession with uterus regulation is pretty antithetical to supposed conservative values.
That’s not to say that Lahren herself is free of hypocrisy. Folks have not hesitated to highlight the irony of Lahren’s defense of her own free speech while criticizing pro football player Colin Kaepernick for sharing his own “controversial” views.
Conservatives are a mess.
