Sen. Susan Collins is continuing her happy talk on the empty promises she's certain she secured from Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, despite the fact that House Speaker Paul Ryan and his merry band of maniacs have practically spit in her eye, insisting that they'll have no part of any deals McConnell made.
That means the "agreement" she secured for votes on two Obamacare stabilization bills is worth the paper McConnell wrote it on. Here's what the guy really in control of the House had to say to her last week.
On Thursday, Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker said conservatives received assurances that talks on a spending package to keep the government open won’t address Obamacare.
"The three things we were told are not gonna happen as part of our agreement: no CSRs, no DACA, no debt limit," he said, referring to efforts to fund Obamacare’s cost-sharing subsidies.
And yet, here she is:
Maybe she doesn't read the papers? But surely someone who works for her does, and pointed out that a paper back home, the Bangor Daily News, has this message for her: "There’s an easier way to trim that amount and more from the deficit—abandoning the push to pass an irresponsible, unneeded and inequitable tax bill."
Maybe someone who works for her in Maine has told her about how protesters have occupied her office to fight against this bill. Maybe not. Maybe she's been existing in blissful ignorance since her terrible vote to advance this bill. But chances are better that she's still bluffing. She's going to bluff her way right into an election challenge in a few years, if she doesn't open her eyes.
Senate Republicans have done all they can to ram their scam of a corporate tax bill through without any sense of transparency or ethics. After Doug Jones’s epic upset, that must stop immediately. Call your House & Senate members at (202) 224-3121 TODAY. Tell them to take NO FURTHER ACTION on the tax bill before Doug Jones is seated.
