I bought some Tang again. It really does taste good hot. For some reason, I decided to look at the “best by” date — 20Oct1923. Okay, so it’s best if used by about 20 years before it was even invented. That’s a new one.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

There’s hope for the human race yet! Although good sense is not to be sneezed at.
This find bears some resemblance to a Go board.
It appears the article I found several weeks back was right. Flu season is going to be bad.
Spain is having problems with snow, too.
Roll up the TV and put it away. Okay, if you say so.
Algeria has seen a heavy snow storm in the past week or so. Not a blizzard, but certainly much more than they’ve seen in a couple generations.
Kodak has jumped on the cryptocurrency bandwagon.
Death is trendy now. Who knew?
And a rock older than our solar system has been found. I do disagree with the article in that Hypatia wasn’t the first Western woman mathematician and astronomer — she just was the one in charge of the Library of Alexandria and died for it.
A while back, I ran across an article online whose author appeared very puzzled at the large number of high-grade iron implements found in Norse Bronze Age graves. This isn’t really a puzzle. Although I do wish I could remember where I ran across the information that Norse settlers in Greenland found a large number of pretty big meteorites there.

I checked on the Thomas fire updates Friday morning. It was reported (as of roughly 8:30 that morning) at 100% containment, and the staff keeping track of issues is listed as 13. The mudslides are causing the current problems.

The big deal for us this past week was that my grandson turned 6 on Tuesday. They don’t do cupcake parties at his school — any parental unit who wants to can read a story on the child’s birthday. I didn’t read Where the Wild Things Are, I recited it and acted it out. The kids seemed to enjoy it.
That afternoon was the first time my grandson grabbed my sleeve and dragged me anywhere in months. He said he couldn’t understand how I could have done that — he would have been too embarrassed. I told him that I could do it because I thought doing that kind of thing was fun.
His mother remembers fondly when I used to act it out with her and her sister. She said he hadn’t thought I was making a fool of myself in front of his friends, he was just puzzled by my being ready to do it. And he’d insisted on her reading the story to him several times, so she’s pretty sure he’d liked it.
At some point, I’m going to have to explain to him that the whole point of telling a story is telling the story, without worrying about what you look like while doing it. I don’t think he’s up to understanding the logic quite yet, though.
