Not much out there yet except from HuffPo, and TMZ, which I refuse to post, but apparently Attorney Michael Avenatti—Story Daniels’ attorney—has been arrested and is at the LAPD. A woman with a swollen face called the police, Avenatti refutes the charges, etc. etc. (TMZ gossip).
Many here, including me, were initially thrilled at Avenatti’s courage and zealous advocacy of his client, Stormy Daniels. As the months wore on, Avenatti became enamored, shall we say, with the praise and the hero-status many bestowed upon him. He began to talk about a 2020 Presidential run against The Occupant and (imho) endangered his client’s case by becoming ubiquitous. (Rule #1 or 2—your client should be out front and center, not you). He apparently was scheduled to chat with Vermont Dems tomorrow in conjunction with his possible candidacy in 2020, which was cancelled.
Then, we heard about Avenatti’s sour business deals, his $4.8 million judgment to pay back a partner, and Stormy Daniels’ divorce.
We initially poo-poo’d his antics, trading the ethical breaches for vigorous and righteous smack-downs of The Occupant and Stormy’s strong case against him. But, the reports trickled in and it was soon too glaring to ignore: Michael Avenatti’s showmanship is hubristic. And, damaging. And, a shit show.
If this felonious incident turns out to have legs and isn’t a set-up (as he is claiming), Avenatti will be shelved into the annals of “WTF Was That” --isms attributed to this ridiculous and horrifying chapter of our history. I hope he didn’t do it.
