Large increase in tax rates and interest rates will not be enough to compensate for the expecting escalations of deficits in American Budget. Social Security and Medicare is projected to face an enormous $82 trillion cash deficit and there is an immense need to reform these programs. However, Trump has deliberately preferred the political rivalry over fiscal sustainability, ignoring the impeding deficits, President Trump has offered minimal changes in Medicare and no significant changes are catered for social security reforms.
In recent military attempts of countering China and Russia, Trumps’ administration has proposed defense budget of $ 716 billion for fiscal year of 2019. The total amount proposed is split into two proportions. $617 billion for Pentagon and the rest is reserved for war fund. The proposed budget is expected to boost an increase for weapons, military troops training, and nuclear arms after eight years of limitation, faced by Pentagon. The increased is definitely going to please defense enthusiasts such as John Makin who apparently have ensured law makers for existence of vigorous support among lawmakers for this massive budget.
James N.Mattis while briefing media representatives said “The budget is what we exactly need to assert back our supremacy”. The budget money will be spent into buying more F-18 fighter plans, offer more training for Mechanics of Air Force and for production of new cyber units. However as large as the expected fiscal budget for 2018 and 2019 is, it certainly won’t be enough to cover all the things. The proposed increase is a huge deal; it’s a big jump in defense and means that the Trump administration is putting resources against an extremely aggressive strategy
However, the top democratic figures are not happy with the massive spending in defense budget. Trump administration has apparently only one goal now which is to present the world with the most massive military, said Rep. Adam Smith. They should focus more on building diplomatic relationships with other countries including China, Iran, North Korea and Russia. The increased military spending by trumps’ government is in dire need of a reality check. I am aware of the threats as anybody else is, however there is only a finite amount of money available and Trump’s administration is pretending that there is not. We would be needing a budget of around $6 trillion to be ready for everything which is simply not possible, he added.
The race for diving into nuclear combat and rise in defense budget isn’t restricted to America only, the recent urge to divulge in race for purchasing nuclear weapons is also high on the rise among Russia and China as well. Despite the Sea Tribunal Ruling against Beijing, the ruling communist party in China has aimed to strengthen military’s investment and defense budget of country.
The proposed defense budget by Donald Trump clearly emphasis the strategic need to compete with China and Russia. However, the proposed document offers no strategy as to what and what not should be prioritized. The recent budget plan was put forward after the issuance of a national strategy by Pentagon which steered away the focus from combating with terrorist groups and entities including Al-Qaeda and Islamic State. The new budget wants the military to do a lot. The primary focus of Pentagon has now shifted to combat with China, North Korea and Russia. The deterrence of aggression even if incorporates the usage of nuclear weapon must have consumed based on proposed budget in Indo –Pacific and Middle East Region.
