Some of you were kind enough to keep an eye out for books and magazines with my stories in them. There weren’t many. I found it hard to write when stressed and for several years I had Bosses From Hell, and concentrated on a never-finished novel. My first husband’s death kinda killed my spirit and creativity . But here they are:
“Pooka’s Bridge” in Elsewhere 2 1980
Same story in Best Fantasy 1980 (published in 81)
“The Vengeance of Nora O’Donnell” in Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction (*0 or 81)
“The King of the Cats” I think it was November 81 Dragon Magazine.
“Eammon’s Banshee” in Amazons 2—84 or 85.
A story in Robert Adams’ “Friends of the Horseclans” anthology.
Ripe Fruit an anthology of erotica about sex over 50—it came out in 2003-4.
My name is Gillian Fitzgerald. Not the name on my driver’s license, but the one everyone who has called me since I was 21. I hated my legal name for a lot of reasons, not the least of which was my my small high school (400 or so students) had someone a year ahead of me with the exact same name, including the middle name. So when I went to grad school, I used the nickname a friend had given me—Gillian for the witch in “Bell Book and Candle”. The other nick was “LW” short for “Little Witch” because I am 5’2” and had turned from Catholicism to Wicca already.kept my last name after marriage because I liked the family history. The Fitzgeralds were a colorful lot; we have a Wizard Earl, a fairy queen, and several who fought in pretty much every rebellion. Not a bad lot to have as ancestors.
I want to thank everyone who welcomed me back to DKos. We wouldn’t be up here without your help, and I would likely have slipped into clinical depression during my 12 years in GA without your support. The Packhorse particularly asked me to tender HIS thanks. We feel strongly that the good thoughts you sent his way after his heart attack helped us get through a terrifying time. We also carried his Comfort Quilt up here in the car—some things are too precious to risk losing (the cats and my Limerick lace wedding veil were the other things).
In case anyone wonders, the cats are great. They got to experience STAIRS for the first time. Annie loves running up and down them (we are in the second floor of an old rectory, and the outer door is at the bottom of the stairs, so we have two locks. It’s astonishing how much noise a 12 pound tabby can make running up and down. She’s still the Tabby Terror who runs the house, and the only one interested in the Dreaded Outside—she is allowed out on a leash in the yard with my husband wher she terrifies bunnies and squirrels. The other three are healthy and happy and like looking out the windows that are big enough to sit in.
I’ll start writing political diaries again soon. This trend of banning abortions after 15 weeks plus the rigid rules on why a woman cannot abort (for Down’s Syndrome or other major issues) has me very worried.
