Calling All Seattle Kossacks!
Trump’s monstrous, uncivilized, un-American policy of separating immigrant families at our southern border cannot stand. It will not stand. The uproar all over the MSM and Twitter and Facebook and around water coolers around the country is giving me a glimmer of hope that this time Trump has gone too far, and our concerted push-back will effect a change.
Republicans are speaking out against the trauma being inflicted on innocent children and families. Legislation is being written. Marches are being planned. Tweets are flying. Outrage is growing. People are disgusted and appalled to the core of their beings, and yelling at the top of their lungs.
And so I wanted to do my part – to add my lumpy middle-aged body to the masses of other bodies who will surely be crowding the streets of American for #FamiliesBelongTogether marches on June 30.
I’d love to go to DC to join what is certain to be an epic mass action there, but no one has dropped a sack of money on my head lately. I simply don’t have the scratch to fly to DC, fly home, and then fly to Iowa for my niece’s 12th birthday the 2nd week in July. But surely there would be a scheduled march to join here in this fair, progressive, fired-up city, no?
So I cruised over the the MoveOn.org site to find the Seattle event, and… no. There was no march. No action planned.
There was a march in Olympia, and another someplace else I can’t get to since I don’t drive, but nothing right downtown.
And so I thought “what the heck – I’ve never done this before, but it can’t be difficult – why don’t *I* start the MoveOn.org march in Seattle?”
Seattle Kossacks, here’s the link.
Will you join us? We’re at 602 RSVPs already and still climbing! We plan to gather at the steps of the Federal Building on 2nd Avenue at 10:00am. We’re having an event coordination meeting this Thursday to plan what we’re going to do – so I don’t have details on that yet. (I am a totally newbie organizer, but thanks to some intrepid folks who do know what they are doing, I think we’ll have a great event.)
Seattlites, if you’re in the area, and you are disgusted and fed up and disheartened and heartbroken, please join us and lift your voice!
This isn’t going to continue if I have anything to do with it. I know you feel the same way. NOT IN OUR NAME. Not now, not never. Or, as Michael Avenatti would say: BASTA.
Join us? Can’t wait to meet you!
