A new petition from the Care2 organization is calling on President Trump to fire Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and hire LeBron James instead.
Here is the petition text from www.thepetitionsite.com/... -
Pretend there are two candidates for U.S. Secretary of Education — the federal cabinet position responsible for the education future of over 74 million children in the country — and YOU get to hire them.
The first candidate is famed athlete LeBron James, a highly respected and extremely influential community advocate and activist who recently opened a state-of-the-art public school for at-risk children in Akron, Ohio — with community services on-site like job placement for parents, guaranteed college tuition for every student who graduates, and a score of other student services like a FREE bicycle and helmet.
The second candidate is Betsy DeVos, a scandal-ridden Republican donor who shows an inexcusable dislike for public education, wants to gut protections for women and minorities, and has advocated for teachers to be armed in schools.
It would be an easy choice, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, Trump and his cronies chose Betsy DeVos for us and we are stuck with an uncaring Education Chief who has fought against teachers and has even expressed disdain for the very department she heads. ... at least until now.
Sign my petition calling for Devos to be fired and LeBron James to be named as U.S. Secretary of Education! LeBron James is an inspiration to kids all over the country. He's shown he cares about America's youth and understands the power of public education in helping children meet their true potential.
Betsy DeVos was hired without ever setting foot in a public school — and she's taken every opportunity to work against the interests of the children, teachers, and families she has pledged to serve. We certainly deserve better!
I know that's it's unlikely that Lebron James would give up his highly successful career — especially since he has been generous enough to use that influence to be an inspirational community and youth advocate for millions. Even more unlikely is that Lebron would ever stand to work for Donald Trump and his hateful rhetoric ... but it's worth a try!
Sign and share my petition to kick out DeVos and for LeBron James to be our new Secretary of Education!
Not that this petition will make any difference in this administration, nor would LeBron ever want to work for Trump, but this will build awareness of the horrible destruction being wrought by this administration on the Education system and help people understand what real community and education leadership looks like.
Also, this petition was probably started without LeBron’s knowledge. It is not some serious attempt to get him appointed as Education Secretary. It is being done to shade and strike back at Trump and DeVos.
Let’s all go to the website and sign it.
The I Promise School
The I Promise School is a partnership between the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools, It opened last week to third- and fourth-graders who are falling behind their peers academically.
From www.ohio.com/… -
The curriculum aims to adopt the “We Are Family” philosophy of the LeBron James Family Foundation, infuse it with STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and take into account the struggles and traumas in students’ lives to provide “social-emotional learning.” It implements a year-round education for kids to retain what they learn.
The school includes a family resource center, where families of I Promise students can go for food, to earn their GEDs and to access a plethora of other county resources.

Shut Up and Dribble
As if Lebron’s educational and charity work is not enough, he is launching a new project - a new documentary series called “Shut Up and Dribble”, for release in October this year on Showtime!
The series is titled “Shut Up and Dribble,” taken from conservative pundit Laura Ingraham’s remarks to James in February when players from the Golden State Warriors declined an invitation to the White House after the 2018 NBA Finals. The controversy serves as a prologue to the series as it chronicles the modern history of the NBA and its players, starting with the 1976 merger of the freewheeling ABA and the more conventional NBA of today.
All this should help build awareness and inspire young people to swell the BlueWave this November.
