Few figures in modern American political history are more loathsome than the vile Texas Senator Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz. Cruz represents everything that is worst in the so-called “Religious Right”—its hypocrisy, its astonishing lies, its ugly tactics, and its ruthless drive for a right-wing theocracy in the U.S. There is no gutter he will not go down into. There is no lie he will not tell. There is no slander or smear he will not use. I thought in this year when Cruz is being powerfully challenged by the brilliant, decent, humane, and charismatic Beto O'Rourke that we could use some reminders about Cruz. CRUZ WILL LIE ABOUT ANYTHING. ANYTHING. ANYTHING. There is no lie he will NOT tell if he thinks it will give him an advantage. There is no hatred he will NOTappeal to. There is NO LIMIT to his bigotry and his dishonesty. So let’s take a look at a few of Teddy Boy’s Greatest Hits:
Meet the Press, February 2016:
“If liberals are so confident that the American people want unlimited abortion on demand, want religious liberty torn down, want the Second Amendment taken away, want veterans’ memorials torn down, want the crosses and Stars of David sandblasted off of the tombstones of our fallen veterans, then go make the case to the people.”
See? We hateful leftists want to sandblast religious symbols off the graves of veterans.
Politifact Texas on Cruz’s astonishing record of lies, right HERE. Check it out. SEE WHAT WE’RE UP AGAINST.
A flood of lies noted by the Dallas Observer, linked right HERE. Some samples:
1. Cruz says he's "consistently opposed shutdowns."
Cruz told reporters Monday that he had nothing to do with shutting down the government in 2013.
“In 2013,” Cruz told reporters. “I voted repeatedly to fund the government, and in 2013 it was Harry Reid and the Democrats who voted no, who voted to shut the government down just like this week.”
Apparently Cruz forgot conspiring with House Republicans to reject any funding bill that didn't delay the implementation of Obamacare, leading to a 17-day shutdown. There was also the 21-hour, Obamacare-blasting speech he made on the Senate floor just before the shutdown.
2. President Barack Obama wanted to allow "grown men and boys into little girls' bathroom, according to Cruz.
Cruz, speaking at the 2016 Republican Convention of Texas, let loose on Obama's recent directive regarding transgender students at U.S. public schools.
"The president issued a decree to every public school in America demanding that they change their bathroom policies, demanding that every public school now allow grown men and boys into little girls’ bathrooms. We have entered the world of politically correct lunacy," Cruz said.
Obama's policy was aimed at students, not adults, and was intended to make sure that transgender kids could use the bathrooms they felt the most comfortable using.
5. Cruz thinks you don't have the right to masturbate.
This one's a flip-flop. In a 2007 brief to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Cruz asserted that the 14th Amendment doesn't protect one's right to masturbate. "There is no substantive-due-process right to stimulate one’s genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship," Cruz wrote in defending a Texas law prohibiting the sale of sex toys.
His college roommate at Princeton, Craig Mazin, expressed amusement when Cruz's brief came up during the run-up to the 2016 election. "I was his college roommate. This would be a new belief of his," Mazin tweeted.
Read ‘em all, if you can stomach it.
Cruz attended a conference in November 2015 sponsored by a right-wing lunatic who wants to physically exterminate gays. From Huffington:
Last weekend Senator Ted Cruz, along with fellow GOP presidential candidates Mike Huckabee and Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal, spoke at a conference in Des Moines headed up by a man who advocates the execution of gay people — per his interpretation of the bible — and who made his call for mass extermination once again, onstage at the event, the National Religious Liberties Conference. Pastor Kevin Swanson has said in the past that Christians should attend gay weddings and hold up signs telling the newly married gay and lesbian couples that they “should be put to death.” He was an advocate of Uganda’s infamous “Kill the Gays” bill, which he saw as a model.
At the confab over the weekend, where he introduced Huckabee, Jindal and Cruz to the audience — and where Ted Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, an anti-gay Tea Party crusader, was a star speaker — he reiterated his death penalty call, adding that homosexuals should first be given some time to repent before the executions begin.
Ted Cruz’s father, who is Cruz’s biggest influence, is a certified right-wing lunatic. From Right Wing Watch:
Rafael Cruz, the father of and top campaign surrogate for Sen. Ted Cruz, claimed today that the country’s public school system was founded by “a member of the American Communist Party.”
The elder Cruz alleged in an interview on the Sirius XM program “Breitbart News Daily” this morning that public schools are brainwashing children into communism as a result of the work of education reformer John Dewey.
While he did correctly identify Dewey as a secular humanist, Cruz alleged that “John Dewey was a member of the American Communist Party,” when, in fact, Dewey was “an avowed anti-Communist” who even believed that “known Communists should not be permitted to teach children.” He co-founded the anti-Communist Committee for Cultural Freedom and was widely denounced by supporters of the Communist Party.
Cruz said that Dewey’s influence in the school system instilled anti-American values in children and, as a result, created “chaos in society.” This prompted Cruz to discuss Common Core, which he claimed “is about redefining education, redefining history and attempting to brainwash kids with a secularist view of history which denies the fundamental principles that have made America great.”
This is just another example of Cruz promoting bunk history in an attempt to bolster his policy positions.
Other wonderful Rafael Cruz positions, from the Texas Freedom Network:
TFN Insider has reported about numerous outrageous statements from Rafael Cruz. He has declared, for example, that “wicked” voters were responsible for electing an openly lesbian mayor in Houston and that “communism and evolution go hand in hand.” He has also questioned the intelligence of African Americans and attacked the faith of Roman Catholics and Jewish Democrats.
And this is delightful:
Everybody Hates Ted
Yes, this is the frightening garbage we’re up against. Ted Cruz represents a deep and profound sickness in American society. It’s time for us to put an end to his hatreds, his ugly lies, and his terrifying extremism. And let me remind you of this item. This was following the Planned Parenthood shooting in November 2015. Just in case you weren’t sure how vicious a bastard Cruz really is:
