So, my sis just sent me this link from the Times of Israel about our glorious racist in chief signing into law The Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act. Seems that this bill has been worked for some time now, and the House passed it last December. I’m actually surprised this fool didn’t actually veto it. Especially considering it uses language such as “This bill states that it is U.S. policy to regard the prevention of genocide and other atrocity crimes as a core national security interest and a core moral responsibility.” And, “The President shall instruct the Department of State to establish a Mass Atrocities Task Force to strengthen State Department efforts and assist other agency efforts at atrocity prevention and response.” (Bold mine) I believe this is generally intended for other countries, but in my estimation the United States of America might be first on the to do list of probable investigations. I mean, I don’t know about you, but locking children in cages, separated from their parents perhaps forever, causing, even inadvertently the deaths of Jakelin Amei Rosmery Caal Maquin and the eight year old boy as yet unnamed, both from Guatemala, not to mention Roxana Hernandez the transgender Honduran woman who died last May in ICE custody, tear gassing pregnant women and children, threatening the use of deadly force by our own military at the border, all of this and much more qualify as atrocities.
In light also, of Frank Vyan Walton's excellent article from January 13 I find this, well, strange. I’d be willing to bet that drumpf wouldn’t give a spit about some potential genocide anywhere, and that he wouldn’t follow this new law to try and prevent one. I mean, he doesn’t follow any laws, really, so why should this one be different?
The strangest thing about this story yet, is the notable lack of coverage in the mainstream media. In fact the only American mention of this that I found was in Forbes of all places. A search on the Act only found that and a couple of other links to obscure international news organizations. What gives? Unless this story is buried in the Times or WaPo, or even USA today, I can’t find it, and it didn’t make any of the Google News headlines links at all. Perhaps I’m jumping the gun and there will be articles tomorrow, but with all the rest of the media’s general perfidy in drumpf coverage as of late this seems one more overlooked story.
