Trump is promising massive spending cuts if re-elected next year.
While the article doesn’t specifically state that the two programs Republicans have been trying to kill since their conception will be cut, I think we can read the writing on the wall.
Despite the GOP’s cries about reducing spending during the Obama years, when the deficit was actually going down, we are seeing record deficits under Trump. The GOP tax scam is not paying for itself (Shocker) and everything from Trump’s 4th of July party for himself and a bloated military budget are taking a toll.
When Republicans talk about cutting spending, they always mean Medicare and Social Security.
The plan is simple. Republicans create record deficits by giving tax cuts to millionaires and then feed us a doomsday scenario about the deficit to try and justify cutting social programs that their millionaire donors want gone. Or the deficit doesn’t get talked about until a Democratic President is elected and then it is all Republican talk about.
After being handed a surplus by Clinton, Bush created a record deficit with tax cuts for the rich and two long, costly wars. Cheney even said that the deficit doesn’t matter when Republicans were creating it. The second Obama was elected, the deficit became the most pressing issue for Republicans. They even took to the streets and created a Tea Party movement against government spending after staying silent during the Bush Spend-A-Thon. Now the debt is exploding under Trump, but you won’t hear them say a word about it until the next Democratic President is elected to clean up the mess. This isn’t coincidence or even hypocrisy, this is the plan.
Create record deficits for the rich and demand that it gets fixed on the backs of the poor and working class. That’s conservatism 101.
When Trump and Republicans promise spending cuts, do you think they are going to raise taxes? Cut military spending? Of course not. It is nothing more than code for cutting Medicare and Social Security.
Trump promised not to touch these programs in 2016. If you think Trump’s promises are worth anything, you haven’t been paying attention. Besides, he has already broken that promise for Medicaid, which he also said he wouldn’t touch in 2016.
Why wait until after the election? Because even Trump supporters, for all their talk about hating socialism, rely on these programs to survive. If he cuts them now, even his most racist supporters who love his racist tweets and chants and seeing brown children locked in cages will turn on him the second he fucks with their money. Racism is fine as long as it doesn’t mess with their wallets.
I personally know Trump supporters who will justify their support and explain away anything he has done and will do but will turn on him in a second if he takes their money and livelihood away.
Kids in cages and racism doesn’t effect them. Losing money will though. As long as the bad things are happening to other people, Republicans can tolerate just about anything.
If re-elected, Trump won’t have to worry about their support anymore. He will screw them without a second thought because that’s what he’s always done. Trump is about Trump. His supporters will only be useful for getting re-elected, once that is done, they are under the bus just like everyone else.
If you think I’m wrong or reading too much into it, I’m sorry you still trust Trump and the GOP to do the right thing, ever. Republicans have been wanting to gut Medicare and Social Security since their beginnings. If Trump is re-elected with a GOP congress, they will have their chance and I have no doubt they would succeed. He needs his base as happy as they can be right now, many of them senior citizens who are alive because of these programs. Once his supporters aren’t needed, he will cut Medicare and Social Security and will be championed as a hero by the GOP politicians and those rich enough not to need these programs. Most of his base will be pissed, but buyers remorse won’t matter. It will be too late.
If you have relatives or know people who support Trump but rely on Medicare and Social Security, you may want to give them a warning. If nothing else, at least you tried.
Democrats need to plaster this point out there and scream this from the rooftops. If Trump denies it, then at least he is on record breaking another major promise.
Trump will destroy Medicare and Social Security if re-elected.
If insulting America for Putin, locking children in cages, creating a record deficit, tweeting racist slogans and slurs, paling around with child molesters and insulting dead war heroes isn’t enough to make Trump’s supporters second guess themselves, maybe the man they for some reason admire taking their money and destroying their life will… maybe.
