I am home sick with the coughing, achy, stuff, and stuck on an amazing week of C-Span2 coverage of Senate debate. I have diaried before on DailyKos.com about Senator Jon Kyl's (R-AZ) response to my request for his position on the Patriot Act. He was on the conference committee as well, so he is quite thorough in his support for it. Today on the Senate floor, just minutes ago, he said what is completely indicative of the differences between those that put national security over personal liberties:
[paraphrase, to be updated]...when it comes to terrorism, that which should be the easist, there's this wall...
He has used 'the wall' between law enforcement and the FBI in the response I posted before. He then compared it to the Berlin Wall. Rhetoric is okay. However, I have immediate gut-response opposition to saying the searching for 'terrorists' - a uniquely undefinable and broad group - should be 'easy'. There absolutely should be a wall there, and I now support sunsetting the Patriot Act for good.
