Markos has his eye on the war in Iraq this morning. Yesterday gave more evidence that neither the war in Iraq nor the war in Afghanistan is making any progress at all. The opposite is true. We are bogged down and competent leadership is severely lacking in this country. Rumsfeld seems to be trying to put the onus on al Jaafari's government while stealthily planning to reduce U.S. troop level in Iraq. Al-Jaafari predicted Syrian cooperation as recently as June 30th.

Meanwhile the war in Afghanistan was back in the news yesterday with riots around the U.S. airbase at Bagram. The natives are restless and rightfully so.
