If you're like me (and if you are, my heartfelt sympathies (oh, and there's a cream for the burning)), you're pretty much emotionally and intellectually done with this workweek. It's damn near 3pm on the Correct Coast, meaning I'm about 4 hours past having done anything resembling "work" and about 2 hours away from the first of what should be a tawdy number of draft microbrews. So, I need something other than that "work" stuff to occupy me for 120 minutes. Obviously, one diary ain't gonna do it, but let's see how close we come. Below is a list of Reasons Today is a Good Day. Throw some of your own in the comments, and we'll all get absolutely nothing accomplished together.
Here goes:
-I woke up with a song in my heart, and it wasn't "Hopelessly Devoted to You" by Olivia Newton John;
-I hate both sides of the Da Vinci Code debate; the Catholic Church for expecting Hollywood to bear the responsibility of telling its consumers that their goofy Tom Hanks flicks based on fictional novels aren't intended to fundamentally alter one's spiritual life, and the filmmakers for further enriching that chowdahead Dan Brown. Thankfully, given the reviews, I can rest happy in the notion that this angular bowel movement of a film is sure to piss off all concerned: the Church for its "blasphemy," moviegoers for its craptastic melodrama, and the filmmakers for its lower than expected long term sales;
-Speaking of movies, who isn't stoked about the Al Gore movie?;
-2006 might become the best cd release year in a decade. Joan Osborne has 2 scheduled, Bob Dylan has one due in August, I hear rumors about The Who and Tom Petty doing stuff (separately, of course), and Neil Young's latest is kickass. Most importantly, it's already May and Dennis DeYoung is still not a member of Styx. We may get through another year without a reunion. Keep those prayers comin' folks, or its "Babe (2006 Remix)" for the lot of us;
-For those in New England, how much did it kick ass that it only poured tropics-style for, like, an hour today? Next week, let's hope for only one day of massive flooding and work commutes via kayak. Baby steps;
-2 weeks till Memorial Day! Granted, it's about #6 on my list of best holidays (I count Super Bowl Sunday as one, even though it's not not a de jure holiday), but, what the hey, it's a day off and the unofficial beginning of summer;
-I started a meetup group today. So if you're in the Rhode Island area and have an uncontrollable urge to talk about Bob Dylan with a bunch of strangers every second Thursday of the month, I have very good news for the people at your bus stop;);
Have at you!
