The Kerry campaign has sucked me in bit by bit. Early this year I was immersed in election news in the daily papers. Then I began to read blogs. First Atrios, then Talking Points Memo, Then dKos. The diaries describing activism led to massive feelings of guilt for me. I started donating money to just about everybody who asked. I then went to a rally featuring John Edwards on Labor Day. (My first political rally ever!) I went to the Kerry rally in Minneapolis two nights ago. It was there that I decided I had to do more than read about the election.
More below the fold.
Last night, my wife and I went to the local Kerry Edwards office and said "Put us to work." We were both nervous, as we felt shy and unsure about how we might help. My wife was asked to enter voter/volunteer info into their database. I phoned people who filled out GOTV volunteer forms at the Kerry Rally. Every person that I called was extraordinarily friendly and glad to hear from the campaign. Their desire to get out and doorknock was inspiring to me. I intend to put in as many hours as I can between now and 8pm November 2 working to GOTV.
Last Wednesday, I was involved in the election. Now I feel INVOLVED and EVOLVED. I can't wait to get out.
