Some votes of John McCain

Sun Jun 01, 2008 at 06:14:47 PM PDT

John McCain.  Oy.

He's a hateful person, if you watch his votes

More below the fold

OK, at Progressive Punch he gets a 13.90.  Amazingly enough, that puts him ahead of most Republicans.  Still, there's plenty of bad votes:

Should we help educate poor people by taxing rich people?  McCain doesn't think so (see vote on Roll Call 35 in 2004

What about if we could do it by closing tax loopholes? No.  See Roll Call 48 in 2004.

Should we fund summer schools? Nope.  See Roll Call 132  in 2002.

----
What about kids?  Everyone thinks kids are important, right? Well, you  wouldn't know it by McCain's votes:

Roll Call 255 in 2007 asked to fund Promise grants for the poorest college students.  McCain was opposed.

Hey! What about kids who have been orphaned due to AIDS? Surely, we can provide their caregivers with some help?  Not if McCain decides: Roll call 182 in 2003

How about child care for poor parents who are looking for jobs? No. See Roll Call 90 in 2003.

------
Should we help native American?  Nope.  McCain gets a 0 here. For instance, he doesn't want to protect them from fallout from energy projects on their land (Roll call 219 on S 14 in 2003)

-----------
Veterans!  Surely McCain, a soldier from a family of soldiers, would want to help veterans?  No. He wouldn't: He got a 10 on this issue.  Of course, he was absent (should that be AWOL?) on a recent vote on Webb's GI bill (although he announced he was opposed).  but in 2005, he voted against increasing funding for veteran's health care (Roll Call 89 and Roll Call 55).

What about bankruptcy? Can we give veterans a break when it comes to bankruptcy?  Nope.  He voted against that.  (Roll Call 13 in 2005)

Given that the National Guard is now being used like the regular armed forces, maybe they could retire early?  No, again: Roll Call 136 in 2004).

--------------
How about seniors? McCain is, of course, a senior himself.  Does that make him sympathetic to their cause? Of course not.  (Maybe because he's got great health care (as a Senator) and a rich wife?):

Should Congress consider future problems with social security? NO.  See Roll Call 48 and 49 in 2005).

Should changes in the law be allowed to strip seniors of their benefits? Of course! See Roll Call 259 in 2003).

Should drug companies be required to be truthful in their ads? Naaah.  Ses Roll Call 248 in 2003

there's more, of course, but that will do.
