Keith Olbermann Unhinged
Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 12:02:20 PM PDT
Keith Olbermann’s presentation on MSNBC is getting more and more filled with the constant appearance of a deranged, scared little man.
Possible Titles & Formats for Rachel's New Show
Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 06:21:39 AM PDT
Name that show. Right here. Let's give MSNBC smart advice from their key demographic: Liberal Spenders. And give Rachel (she's a "Only One Name Needed" now, isn't she? Oprah, Cher, Keith, Rachel...) the "help" she actual soliticted on last night's Countdown. Here's a start:
"Counter Balance" - Where you only hear the real side of the news. All facts, no echo chamber,
"URL" - - Facts, Film, Investigations, Uncoverings and Truth-Telling straight from the blogoshere to you
More ideas after the jump...
What Rachel Maddow's show should NOT be called
Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 06:04:14 AM PDT
Summary: As you almost certainly know, Rachel Maddow will be getting her own show on MSNBC. As you probably know, there is no title yet for it. Now, I could just run through a list of realistic titles for you to consider, but Clem Yeobright beat me to it.
So let's try something a little different, shall we?
Willie Brown Said "Obama Needs To Hit'em Harder" [w/poll]
Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 11:15:29 PM PDT
I cant find a youtube clip of it but yesterday on Hardball, Willie Brown was saying that alot of democrats are worried with Obama as of late.
he went on to explain that in the primaries, Obama was dynamic and showing us what he was bringing to the game. Brown stated that Obama has been less exciting and needed to keep the excitment coming..

Olbermann, Maddow, and the Fuming Reaction of Bill O'Reilly
Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 06:33:26 PM PDT
I am glad to see Rachel Maddow get her own show. What makes this interesting is the fuming reaction of the blowhard Bill Orally. Right now, O'Reilly is waging a holy war against GE. He is putting up a nice like rationale, that it is because GE has done business in Iran. The real reason, however, is that he hates Olbermann, and sees Olbermann as a threat to his empire. O'Reilly's ratings have been stagnant for over a year now, which is in part because of Olbermann, whose show is on at the same time as is O'Reilly's. O'Reilly continuously gets annihilated amongst younger viewers, and remains strong only with the oldest viewers. Overall, his huge ratings advantage against Olbermann has disappeared. O'Reilly and his corporate master, former Bush 41 campaign advisor and president of Fox Noise Roger Ailes, have taken their little sh*t fest all the way to the president of NBC. When they were unable to browbeat MSNBC into firing Olbermann, they started their McCarthyesque campaign against GE. And how has that worked out? Ask Rachel Maddow. It seems as though MSNBC, through either intention or simply fact, is sticking it to the bully O'Reilly and Fox.
FINALLY! People on the internet love Wesley!

I don't know about you, but back in the halcyon days of the late eighties and early nineties, I was quite a Star Trek: The Next Generation fan. I'm not afraid to admit it. It may be nerdy, but it was a series ahead of its time that paved the way for a generation of television (most of which sucked). Back then, the newsgroups and the internet in general were so full of bile toward one wholly underrated crew member.
Now as a precocious teenager at the time, I could relate to some of his plight in the series, though some of the teenage intrigue fell more than a little flat -- even as I spent half my nights in the library, I spent the other half in the dorms of NYU "studying Russian," to my poor mother's chagrin. Nevertheless, the proliferation of hate directed toward our hero, Wil Wheaton, throughout the newly sprouting intertubes simply boggles the mind in retrospect. How could a figure so hated then be so beloved today?

Rachel Gets Her Own MSNBC Show
Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 02:05:19 PM PDT
Happy Now?
The network will be formally announcing this tomorrow, but I am pleased to inform you in this fully authorized leak, that as of Monday, September 8, our mutual friend Ms. Maddow will become host of her own show, on MSNBC, at 9 PM Eastern Time.
And, yes, we will be making another unofficial announcement of this on tonight's edition of Countdown. My guest to analyze the Rachel Maddow news will be Rachel Maddow.
Obama, King of Spades. WTF, MSNBC?!?
Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 09:43:43 AM PDT
So I was watching MSNBC last night, "The Verdict", and Dan Abrams was talking about VP choices. The on-screen graphics had a playing card motif.
McCain was the King of Diamonds.
Obama was the King of Spades.
Special Comment: McCain
Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 04:32:57 PM PDT
What's the old saw? Never get into an argument with people who buy ink by the barrel? Is there an electronic equivalent?
I'm not even sure you can't beat a media organization. But if you're a presidential candidate and you come after it with a craven and silly argument - and you follow a path previously tried by a now ex-presidential candidate - you've probably been poorly advised.
Thus tonight, between Senator McCain's manager's broadside against us, and his creative but tinny-sounding attacks on Senator Obama today at the VFW Convention, I've got a Special Comment planned.
A newcomer's guide to the Denver Convention

In preparation for the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver, it's best to map out a small, but effective little guide to first timers and those watching from home.
MSNBC's "CANDID CAMERA"
Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 09:28:47 PM PDT
I was watching the late edition of "Countdown" on MSNBC and it's followed by a remake of the old "Candid Camera" show hosted by a guy named Chris Hanson.
It's a bit more formulaic than the old show with Allen Funt because every episode seems to involve some hapless guy who wants to have sex with young girls--or boys.
And Hanson never remembers to say "Smile,...."
Closed captioning on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC: what it tells us
Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 07:19:28 PM PDT
To help keep pace with all of the election coverage on the 24/7 news channels, Jed has been archiving closed captioning data. However, the sheer volume of text makes it hard to analyze.
In this diary, I'll show several automatically generated images (word clouds) that I created that highlight the prevalence of certain words in election coverage on these three channels; the analysis is over the last week's worth of closed captioning feeds. Let's look at the top 20 words on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News (from left to right):

Thank-you David Shuster, Thank-you
Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 04:46:13 PM PDT
I was watching Hardball a few minutes ago, swalling some Mac & Cheese after getting my Wisdom Teeth out earlier today, and I saw him bring two Republicans, sorry, I mean "Democrats" who were ranting and raving about the election. It's not often you see a media network anchor get as tough with them as David Shuster did when he was interviewing them about the whole Clinton/Obama primary clusterf*ck. These punks (that's all they are) were babbling on about how the process was un-Democratic and how they're going to vote for McCain in order to bring about change in the DNC leadership. Now, I'll admit that the process was a mess and that it needs to be fixed for the next go around (hopefully Obama won't be challenged by a resurgent Clinton in 2012), but Democracy is never perfect and this was the best we could do with the cards that we were dealt. But that's not what this post was about.
