Some rare machines (Photo Diary)

by boriscleto

I spent the yesterday afternoon at the Northeast Classic Car Museum in Norwich, NY. They have a great collection of some very rare cars, including cars made right here in NY. The auto industry in the first three decades of the 20th century was much more diverse than it became in the wake of the Great Depression. The museum has one of the, if not the largest collections of Franklin automobiles manufactured by the Franklin Automobile Company of Syracuse, NY. Franklin manufactured and sold luxury cars from 1902 to 1934 and introduced a number of innovations.

A 1903 Franklin. This is the 2nd oldest known Franklin in existence. The first Franklin of 1902 is owned by the Smithsonian...
Innovations include the first 4-cylinder engine and elliptic suspension.

Just a quick diary of my visit to the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, NY on Tuesday Jun 18. The 1941 Historical Aircraft Group was founded in 1994 when the National Warplane Museum (Wings of Eagles) moved to Elmira, NY and took most of the best planes (and funding) with them. Wings of Eagles is now focusing more on Aerospace Science and Engineering education, so they offered the NWPM name back to the Geneseo group. Now the NWPM needs some funding to get their collection into display condition.

May 4th 2013 was Wildlife Festival day at the Montezuma Audubon Center. This will probably be the last trip to Savannah for a while, I've been there 3 times in 4 weeks...this was however the best visit to the refuge this year.

I've never seen a Bluebird in a Bluebird box. All I ever see is Tree Swallows...

Monday was meeting day for the Friends of Beaver Lake Photography Group so I stayed in the center and took photos of the feeder birds and other visitors.

It's finally Spring - a photodiary

by boriscleto

Saturday April 6th was the day Spring finally seemed to arrive in Central New York after what seemed like an endless March and a couple late snow storms.

So to shake off the cabin fever, and pass the time while waiting to be crushed by the defeat of my Syracuse Orange, I went to my local nature center to take a walk through the bog and watch the feeder birds.

NY 24: Latest PAC mailer

by boriscleto

The Wicked Witch of CNY has a new PAC money mailer. This time trying to scare seniors over Medicare Part D. As always, the biggest lie is her campaign photo. Sorry to do this to you, but this is what she really looks like...

Yet another evening walk at the Beaver Lake Nature Center. This time I decided to try out my new to me 28-105mm lens when I should have stuck with the 55-300mm. As always, please click through for a larger version.

Lime Hollow (NY) a Photodiary

by boriscleto

I took a walk at the Lime Hollow Center for Environment & Culture in Cortland, NY on a muggy afternoon. It was a good way to get away from the constant ACA talk and I thought I'd share some pictures. Click through to flickr for full size, I had to edit these on my iPad because my media hard drive isn't working at the moment.

It was a beautiful evening for a walk through the woods and meadows at Beaver Lake Nature Center. There was only one screaming kid, and they went down a different path. There was good action at the feeders too.
