Robert F Kennedy 11/20/25 - 06/06/68

I still remember the day that Bobby Kennedy died. He was the senator from my home state of New York, and I had met him when he stopped in my hometown during his senatorial campaign. It was a quick handshake to a giddy high school student, but I remember it to this day. The hour he got shot in Los Angeles was the middle of the night New York time, so I heard the news when I woke up for school the next day. At that point he was still alive, but his condition was grave. He died later in the day. It had been less than 5 years since his older brother John had been assassinated, and it was a mere 2 months following the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. Those around me felt that the fabric of the nation was being torn apart....our last, best hope was now gone.
Tonight I'm really sad...

By this time tomorrow, Barack Obama will most likely be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. He will most likely win both Montana and South Dakota, and while those states will not give him enough regular delegates, all indications are that he will pick up enough superdelegates to carry him over the required number. I should be on top of the world.
Tonight, I was sitting at my computer and really felt the passing of an era. I remember how excited I was to vote for Bill Clinton in both 1992 and 1996, and how I vocally defended him during the long Ken Starr hearings and the impeachment hearings. I remember being a bit annoyed when Al Gore didn't ask Bill to campaign with him in 2000. To me Bill Clinton was larger than life, a feeling that lasted quite awhile after GWB entered office.
Obama, Wright, and a middle-aged caucasian

I've never been moved to write a diary here before, although I've lurked and posted comments from time to time, but after all the controversy over Reverend Wright and Barack Obama, I've felt compelled to add to the discussion, being of the demographic that supposedly is now appalled and ashamed about it all...
