IRS forces DLC to admit it does not help Democrats

Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 08:58:30 AM PDT

This case seems similar to the one where Fox news had to admit it does not actually care for the truth to win its court case.

The legal structure of the DLC forbids it from helping a party. Instead the DLC is forced to admit that its purpose is to promote its corporatist agenda rather than help promote real change.

DLC dismisses exempt status attack by IRS

"The Internal Revenue Service said the nonprofit organization became an advocacy group for elected Democrats and demanded payment for three years of back taxes."

"[T]he IRS could revoke the organization's nonprofit status for future tax exemptions if it benefited only one political party, namely Democrats. "

DLC under fire from IRS

Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 09:29:38 AM PDT

I write this with a heavy sense of irony. One the one hand it is great to the DLC under fire from the IRS. On the other hand, the IRS's case is based on the idea that the DLC is helping get democrats elected. The upshot is that the DLC is now forced to make the case that its purpose is to advocate for its agenda not to help the Democratic party.

$1 billion raised for Katrina- not enough!

Mon Sep 19, 2005 at 07:56:55 AM PDT

I work in nonprofit finance. I think nonprofits are great. I give to nonprofits. For Katrina, I donated through the blog world and at my church. I  watched the star-studded telethons and even the no-defense NBA All-star type relief game. I did my patriotic duty right? No

Here are the facts- framed as if everything is great...

Donations for Hurricane Recovery Pass $1-Billion

American charities have raised $1.06-billion to help the survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

The pace of giving is unprecedented in American history. In the two weeks after the 2001 terrorist attacks, Americans donated $558-million to charitable causes, and in the two and a half weeks after the tsunamis hit, major American relief groups raised $406-million.

While this is great that people are giving money, let's not forget that $1 billion is not that much when compared with a $200 million price tag...

Mexican immigration scare

Fri Jul 22, 2005 at 03:12:59 PM PDT

A recent diary about Gov. Dean said this...

www.dailykos.com :

Gov. Dean asked us, "What will they use in 2006?" Illegal immigration. It's already begun. Schwarzeneggar has said he will invite the minutemen to California, to patrol the borders there. Illegal immigration will be presented as the threat to the American people.

Sounds kind of kooky? But I think the marching orders may have been sent out...My recent GOP USA email ( I don't know why I read it either)....had this as the top article of the day:

the Jackie Robinson Myth & why White liberals should care

Fri Feb 11, 2005 at 10:07:55 AM PDT

It's that time of the year again- Black History Month. We get to reflect on our nation's (not so great) history of racism! Woo-hoo. As a white person (and former ditto head myself) I didn't care and thought it was for nothing. Then as a nice sweet white liberal I thought it was cool but not neccessary. But now I know better! Progressives must fight for a proper account of racism. Here's why (as I try to chanel Howard Zinn...)...

Gateway v Dell = DNC v RNC?

Wed Jan 26, 2005 at 07:45:03 AM PDT

I am thinking about getting a new computer. I heard that Micheal Dell was a big supporter of Bush so I checked it out. The facts show that while Ted Waitt (Gateway CEO) is a Lieberman fan, Gateway is the better choice.  Here are the 2004 results for each (including their wives) from fundrace.og...

Newsmax readers in pain

Wed Dec 22, 2004 at 12:48:29 PM PDT

Interesting to watch as hard right Newsmax and GOPUSA readers cheer on their leaders to attack....Republicans!

"Oh my god- Maybe there is a reason Alan Keyes got 2% of the vote...No No No...Can't be...Are Republicans not all facists?...No No No... Can't be," you can hear them say.

Reframing Abortion?

Fri Nov 05, 2004 at 07:05:54 AM PDT

Hi-

I did GOTV in Ohio and was stunned by the amount of people that told me that they were going to vote for Bush simply because of Kerry's stance on abortion. I also read my George Lakoff and think we can re-frame the issue in a way that people will understand.

Anyway here is my shot at the issues and how we can win back this issue....
