Milbank - This is an Ex-Candidate

Wed May 14, 2008 at 08:12:49 AM PDT

I love behind the scene reports on the happenings within the campaigns and Dana Milbank's chronicle of the Clinton campaign yesterday doesn't disappoint.

Throughout the article he hilariously invokes the dead parrot skit from Monty Python to exemplify the reality that is facing Clinton.  That whether she knows it or not, her campaign for the White House is over.

Customer: "Look, matey, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now."

Pet-shop owner: "No, no he's not dead, he's -- he's resting! Remarkable bird, the Norwegian blue, isn't it, aye? Beautiful plumage!"

Limbaugh's Vote for Hillary Gambit is a Felony in Ohio

Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 12:16:52 PM PDT

Rush Limbaugh should have his FCC license yanked.

RUSH: I know I'm fighting an uphill battle here, folks, on trying to convince you Republicans in Ohio and Texas to cross over, pimp yourselves for a day, vote for Hillary to keep this campaign going, this Uncivil War, Democrat Party.  I know what's going to happen.  Even if I convince you to do it -- remember what this is, this is about us winning.  You have to understand, it's not about Hillary winning; it's about us winning.  It's about our party winning.  It's about those people losing.

About Those Tax Returns

Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 10:41:15 AM PDT

Newsday ran a story yesterday reminding its readers that during Hillary Clinton's 2000 Senate race, she made much ado about the fact that her Republican opponent Rick Lazio had failed to release his tax returns three months into the race.

NYT 8/29/2000

The campaign of his Democratic opponent, Hillary Rodham Clinton, criticized the delay, asking whether he was hiding something. The State Democratic Party even sent a young campaign worker dressed as Uncle Sam to Mr. Lazio's campaign events, to shout at him to disclose the returns.

McCain's Fraud

Tue Feb 19, 2008 at 03:50:54 PM PDT

TPM links to a piece by Mark Schmitt over at Tapped which absolutely blew me away.

In a nutshell...in order to secure his second loan from the bank, McCain promised that if he were to lose in the primary, he would stay in the race long enough to reapply for the matching public funds program.

Here is a clip from Schmitt's piece along quotes from the loan agreement:

WaPo article says Tom Delay confessed to Earle

Fri Nov 11, 2005 at 10:55:06 AM PDT

This has to be one of the boniest of bonehead moves in all of Boneheadom.  Thanks to Tom Delay's own words, Ronnie Earle has an ace in the hole.  The Washington Post has the goods.

Janie's got a gun and Judy's got a blog

Thu Nov 10, 2005 at 10:55:01 AM PDT

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her dog day's just begun
Now everybody is on the run

Oh lordy, Judith Miller has a blog and she's not afraid to use it.

Now unbound by her departure from the NYT, does she plunge head first into pre-war intelligence and her part in the misreporting of that intelligence which helped to lead us into war?  Of course not.  More on the flip...

Bush foreign borrowing highest in US history-- record-breaking foreign debt

Fri Nov 04, 2005 at 08:44:31 AM PDT

Jesselee at Stakeholder posted a release from John Tanner (D-TN) yesterday which got lost in the background of developing news stories on Delay, Abramoff and Libby but which bears some recognition.

According to Tanner, the Bush Administration has borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 Presidents combined.  More after the fold.

Ronnie Earle asks Republican judge to remove himself

Thu Nov 03, 2005 at 12:18:28 PM PDT

Now this is funny. Tom Delay and his legal team got a taste of their own medicine today. That confusing high pitched sound drifting through your living room window is not a neighborhood cat in heat, it's the howl of rage by Tom Delay at Ronnie Earle's latest checkmate.

In a move that belongs in the Tit for Tat Hall of Fame, Ronnie Earle filed a motion today asking the Republican judge who will be deciding which judge is to preside over the Delay trial to step aside.  More on the flip.

The Wheels on the Bus

Fri Jul 15, 2005 at 12:43:44 PM PDT

My six year old is struggling to understand why his mother has been hovering over the computer almost constantly for the last week, muttering like a mad woman.  I've tried to explain a little bit of the Rove/Plame situation to him but it's just too complicated for an innocent mind.

Then the other day, during one of those press briefings where Scotty looked a little constipated, a song, The Wheels on the Bus, popped into my head.  God only knows why because I really hate that song and look back fondly on the age when my son outgrew his love of it.

Anyway, there I was watching Scotty with my mind meandering through the many verses and lo and behold, there it was.  It's all so clear to me now.....

The Rev. Edgar calls it Just-Us Sunday

Sat Apr 23, 2005 at 08:29:09 AM PDT

This morning I came across an excellent statement from The Reverend Robert Edgar, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches, posted on the faith and politics blog of Chuck Currie.

Just Us Sunday

We are both surprised and grieved by the Family Research Council and Senator Bill Frist's involvement in organizing a campaign in which they claim that those who disagree with them on President Bush's judicial nominees are "against people of faith." This campaign, which they are calling "Justice Sunday," should properly be called "Just-Us" Sunday.

Bruce Eberle's Right Wing Money Machine

Fri Feb 11, 2005 at 12:00:03 PM PDT

A special thanks goes out to Bruce Eberle, relative of our very own Bobby Eberle of GOPUSA and former employer of Jeff Gannon aka James Guckert, who lays it all out for us in stunning detail.

This comes from PR Watch

I wrote about it three years ago in a story that described the work of conservative direct marketer Bruce Eberle, whose Omega List Company specializes in raising money using mail and e-mail.

On a section of the website that has subsequently been removed, Omega List was quite straightforward about the fact that it pays conservative commentators to endorse clients and their causes. A series of web pages featured conservative radio show host Blanquita Cullum explaining exactly how the system works and how other radio hosts could get in on the gravy.
