Since I don't pay too much attention to the Cato Institute because, well, I'm not a big fan of libertarianism, if not for TalkLeft recommending it, I would have missed this.

Last week, CATO released a report entitled "Power Surge:  The Constitutional Record of George W. Bush".  

To put it lightly, it's a damn good run down of the way that George W. Bush has spent 5+ years in office turning the constitution into nothing more than White House toilet paper.

Newly elected Representative Joe Donnely apparently was completely unaware of why he was in the midst of fellow newly elected congressional reps yesterday when they met with Bush in a "hi, how do ya do......we'll not call you a war criminal to your face" meet and greet session today.   In fact, it took the Child King himself to bring sense and reason to Donnely in an amazing feat of bipartisanship as Bush reached out to Joe yesterday.

I can't listen to these vinyls he gave me (original pressings of The Doors, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc) as I haven't had turntables in years ..... actually haven't had them since my roommate finally came back after a year to take back his Technic SL1200's that I'd been spoiled with for no good reason other than he was just a spoiled ass kid rooming with us who left them there when he moved out and they became my toy by his permission.

HL Mungo is reporting that the fire which lead to an unbelievable hours long series of explosions on the level of "Shock and Awe" camera-wise, tonight is, "shockingly", the result of a mortar attack (sourced to an on the record military voice).  The military had said it was a fire which causeed it but gave no further details.

There were no casualties? no reports of casualties?  That's waht the Reuters report in HL Mungo's link says.   I call bullshit.

HOW LONG WILL IT BE BEFORE WE FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TONIGHT?

How long has it been since we have had a terrorist attack inside the U.S.?  Including the unsolved (what the fuck?) Anthrax attacks?

Now put yourself on September 10th, 2001 and ask how long it had been since we'd been attacked.   ALMOST A FUCKING DECADE.  Then ask yourself why we hadn't been attacked since the last time and think the time between attacks is relevant to asking the question posed in the title of this diary entitled.... "Why Haven't We Been Attacked Since 9/11?"

The fact that we haven't been attacked since 9/11 and Anthrax is really meaningless when put to a timeframe sort of arguement.   We haven't been attacked since then because....we fucking haven't.   It has no relevance to the threat at hand or the likelihood of getting attacked again tomorrow or next year.

It's one of the stupidest arguments Bush supporters put forth really.
