What books would they burn?

Now we know! (Courtesy of Wonkette.) It seems that the goons at Human Events have published a list of the most DANGEROUS books of the last two centuries (Why the last two? So they could have yet another excuse to rant "Marx is a BAD BAD MAN"). If you've got the stomach, check out their list at:

Mitch Daniels and IN community colleges. Outrageous.

Fri Mar 25, 2005 at 08:28:23 AM PDT

Bush budgeteer and Indiana governor Mitch Daniels manages to sleaze everything he touches; now, he's trying to politicize the IN community college system by firing its entire board of trustees and stacking it with his own appointments.

State university systems in Indiana have been going through some consolidations and structural changes for the last several years; the results have been mixed, and the debate hasn't really been political (in the Dem vs. Rep sense) until now. A proposal to place the state's community college system under the governance of Ivy Tech State College (with which, incidentally, I agree) has been amended to force the entire Ivy Tech board of trustees to resign, and to be replaced by all new Daniels appointees.

Who certifies Bill Frist, M.D.?

Thu Mar 24, 2005 at 09:33:44 AM PDT

Of all the nastiness that's bubbled up to the surface in the Schiavo case, I think I'm most disgusted by the behavior of the Senate Majority Leader. Bill Frist is the first to bring up his (well-earned) expertise in medicine; however, on medical issues, he is also one of the biggest liars around when it serves the purpose of the Republican Party. Recall his comments of a few days ago on Schiavo:

You can take the smear artist out of the Bush administration (Mitch Daniels)...

Mon Mar 07, 2005 at 06:31:05 AM PDT

But you can't take Rove out of the smearer. The latest from ex-White House Budget Director, present IN governor, and all-around dillhole Mitch Daniels:
"Indiana's drive for growth and reform was car-bombed yesterday by the Indiana House [Democratic] minority," Daniels said during a Statehouse news conference. "Many of these measures probably will not be back this year."

Mesothelioma: "Freedom Cancer"!

As most people were focusing on what Social Security lies would be forthcoming last night, it seems that a curious part of the speech escaped notice. It wasn't quite the non sequitur that last year's steroid obsession was, but look what gets a specific shout-out in the following.

To make our economy stronger and more competitive, America must reward, not punish, the efforts and dreams of entrepreneurs. Small business is the path of advancement, especially for women and minorities. So we must free small businesses from needless regulation and protection honest job creators from junk lawsuits.

Justice is distorted and our economy is held back by irresponsible class actions and frivolous asbestos claims, and I urge Congress to pass legal reforms this year.
