I have been refreshing the page all day to see her take on how the common Iraqi is responding to the death of Zarqawi since I know I won't get that from our corporate media.
Well now she has posted her thoughts, I'll diary her even more powerful post
I don't diary much on here but I'll keep on doing so every time I see a new post by Riverbend at Baghdad Burning. I'm a couple of days late here but I can't find it diaried.
You have to read them.
Due to worldwide pressure and exposure, and by direct order of Ayatollah Shahrudi, the highest authority of the Iranian Judiciary, the death sentence of Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi has been removed.
Can't see this diaried on here so far. Some GREAT news for a change.
Last week sonicreducr and redsox diaried on here about Iranian 18 year old Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi who had been sentenced to death in Iran for killing a man to defend herself from rape.
I've just seen this post Nazanin will live.

There is a new post up today about the effect of creeping religious madness on life in Baghdad since Dubya and the whole neocon cabal (including my prime minister Bliar) so graciously introduced 'Democracy' into Iraq.

Barbara if you read this I hope you don't mind, I just thought it might be another way to help get your message across and I hope you are safe.
Does anyone know if through Barbara's efforts or via DKos whether any of the major media over there have covered this as she was requesting??
Maybe some of you don't get access to video footage, maybe all this stuff needs writing down, I don't know, it just struck me as something that might be worthwhile.
Having just transcribed this, I've searched DKos and it has been diaried earlier, there was a request for a transcription in the comments, so I hope this is of some use.
The video is at WAFB9
But I'll use my one diary per day to say that I've seen two comments now from Kos User Applegal who has a van in Ohio and wants to fill it and drive to provide some relief but needs company........
The comments are
and
Anybody ??
A while back someone posted on here about a site they had created depicting monthly casualty rates with repeated images of an American military symbol (I forget exactly what it was). Anyway I and many others commented what a powerful use of imagery that was.
In my humble opinion this site, named Iraq War Coalition Fatalities exceeds that for visual impact.
It got two comments, one of which led to a donation.
From NPPC's diary, who worked in the Peace Corps there and I hope doesn't mind me borrowing....
"In the spirit of human compassion I ask you to mirror the Nigeriens' own generosity by coming to their aid in this time of need. Please consider making even a small donation to help ease this crisis. It is easy to make a secure online donation to a well-established aid agency, such as the World Food Programme. For each dollar donated to the WFP only 7 cents go towards administrative costs and the rest will provide food for those most in need. I myself have just made a donation. Please join me. If you have any questions about Niger, or would like to see pictures of my friends and loved ones there, I will be happy to share them. Please forward this message to anyone who may be concerned."
Amid all the noise over all the Iraq issues her posts stand out as a beacon of clarity, detailing a life that the majority of us cannot even begin to imagine.
Or from a buzzflash interview with her
Her latest post is up today. Go and read it.
Here it is
From the site :
From News of Central Asia, (and from what I can tell from the babelfish translation), it seems that the demonstration calling for an end to US "arbitrariness" took place
However one very brave lady, Elena Urlayeva (or Urlaeva) was "undertaken under the confinement to quarters", which I guess may mean house arrest and not allowed to participate.

This isn't available on the english news version of the site yet, I've just linked a translation
Hence a short diary on Robert Fisk's article in the Independent: "America's Shame, Two Years on from Mission Accomplished." (the diary title comes from there)
I read this kind of stuff and it keeps me angry.
I'm glad to see the number of diaries reflecting on various aspects of the Iran issue are starting to creep up on here, I hope it continues and while I get the sense that the average perception on here at the moment (of those who are commenting or showing an interest in Iran) is......naaah, never happen, we've not got the forces (and I hope you are right)....I think we have to continue to stay informed.
To do our bit to try and avoid a repeat of this 98,000 and this 1,756

According to this report, Iranian Head of Foreign Affairs Hossein Mousavian noted:
Russia is against international discrimination toward Iran's nuclear program and activities
International discrimination ? What could they mean ? More below
We don't actually know whether the neocon administration is planning to attack Iran once the negotiations with the EU3 conveniently "run out of time" and the matter gets referred to the UN, MAYBE with newly installed John "There is no such thing as the United Nations. There is an international community that occassionally can be led by the only real power left in the world and that is the United States when it suits our interests and we can get others to go along" Bolton overseeing events.
But I do know that there's plenty of verbiage already floating around designed to ratchet up the fear.
