I cried... but not too much.

Thu May 03, 2007 at 11:34:57 AM PDT

We've all seen it; too many times I'm afraid... a small-town main street festooned with American flags and red, white and blue ribbons: a fallen soldier honored one last time by his hometown.

Diebold: A picture's worth 1,000 keys... or just one!

Thu Jan 25, 2007 at 06:25:32 AM PDT

Well, I'd say it's unbelievable, but it really isn't. A key has been constructed that will open every Diebold machine. And it was made from a a photo on the Diebold website! Yeah, I trust these machines to fairly and accurately tabulate my votes... NOT!

Potential cheap, safe cure for cancer: Will Big Pharma Allow It?

Thu Jan 18, 2007 at 07:36:11 AM PDT

I read a (mercifully) short, fascinating, easily understood article in New Scientist about a drug called DCA that filled me with hope. Then shattered it.

The GOP needs MY money?

I get lots of mail from Ken Mehlman and George & Laura Bush... they're such nice letters and they make me feel like such a part of this great big elephant...

I'm gonna miss Donald Sutherland

Wed May 03, 2006 at 11:22:07 AM PDT

Ah, well. Farewell to 'Commander in Chief.' Doggone it... I LOVED Sutherland as Speaker Templeton... he was as underhanded and evil as our worst dreams.

A hundred bucks a vote? Aw, can't we just rig it again?

Thu Apr 27, 2006 at 10:03:26 PM PDT

Oooooh, they are feeling our pain. Just like King Decider... ouch, that $3 a gallon gas hurts, don't it?

"I know, I know, but we're gonna make it better. Here's $100 holiday happy time gasoline dollars just for you!

No, it has nothing to do with elections coming up... I'm shocked, shocked that you would say such a thing..."

Can these bastards be any more transparent? Can these bastards be any more obvious? Can these bastards be any more bastardly?

Can you be bought off for $100?

Join me on the other side.

New Dark Age, USA.... USA, meet the New Dark Age...

Tue Apr 25, 2006 at 01:43:39 PM PDT

OK, if I were Eddie Vedder, I'd be bummed that a lot of people are gonna download the new Pearl Jam album soon after it hits the streets in May (I'll be buying it, Ed). If I were Bill Gates, I'd be perturbed that there are copies of XP out there that someone hasn't somehow payed for (came with my Dell, Bill... smile).

That said, were I these folks, I'd also not be so insane as to think a kid listening to ripped tracks on his iPod, or someone doing some word processing on a cracked copy of Word is somehow funding suicide bombers, IED triggerers, and other various terrorist activities; it's just not reasonable.

War in Oceania

Thu Mar 02, 2006 at 02:45:26 PM PDT

Remember that Simpsons episode where Burns uses his 'OmniNet' system to completely empty the sea of fish and render them into "a high-protein feed for farm animals, insulation for low-income housing, a powerful explosive and a top-notch engine coolant"? Well, soon we'll have a GWOT® reason to 'recycle' those evil animals!

Fashion Tips for Cheney Speaking Events: NO BLAZE ORANGE

Wed Feb 15, 2006 at 02:21:39 PM PDT

Ask Cindy Sheehan... a simple black t-shirt with some strategic masking tape will get you thrown out of any State of the Union address you happen to attend.

Looks like the Fashion Police... um, I mean the Secret Service is gonna have a much harder job now.

Countdown to 2000 (US War Dead in Iraq)

Tue Sep 20, 2005 at 10:09:48 AM PDT

We Americans love round numbers. 50th anniversaries... 10 year reunions... bicentennials...

... and up until now, this war dead figure has been just so messy. Why should we waste our beautiful minds on these oddball numbers?

Crawford Mix Tape

Fri Aug 12, 2005 at 03:00:17 PM PDT

Load 'em on your iPod, dub 'em to cassette... burn 'em to a CD... and keep 'em in your head.

I'm gonna pretend it's a cassette and do it side by side.

Side A... let's call it the Cindy Side:

The Rising - Springsteen
Devils & Dust - Springsteen
The Times They Are A'Changin' - Dylan
Peace Train - 10,000 Maniacs
What Say You - Mellencamp & Tritt
Know Your Rights - Clash
Get Up, Stand Up - Bob Marley
What's So Funny 'Bout Peace Love
and Understanding - Elvis Costello
Volunteers - Jefferson Airplane
It Better End Soon - Chicago
What's Goin' On - Marvin Gaye
Travelin' Soldier - Dixie Chicks
Find the Cost of Freedom - CSNY
A Change Gonna Come - Sam Cooke

and on to...

Devils and Dust

Thu Aug 11, 2005 at 02:13:57 PM PDT

I've always liked Springsteen, ever since I bought Darkness On The Edge Of Town way back in '78. His new one Devils and Dust is a good listen, too. Lonely, stark, spooky... kind of in the vein of 'Nebraska.' I'm not here to talk about that, though.

I will quote a quick lyric from the title-mentioned song, though:

I'm just trying to survive
But if what you do to survive
Kills the things you love

A soldier returning from the war with a head full of images that he'll never shake puts it less poetically, but no less forcefully, after the fold.

Who Would Jesus Bomb?

Tue Jun 21, 2005 at 01:22:10 PM PDT

Sadly, that's not the title of an upcoming special on 'Faith in the White house' airing next week on PAX-TV.

The maddening, nauseating press release I received by email coming up after the fold.

Here's a preview:

"The Bush administration hums to the sound of prayer.

Oddly enough, the tune resembles "We're in the Money."

...executives noticed the extraordinary `Bush faith' phenomenon about two years ago...

You'll witness George W. Bush's remarkable journey of faith - from the bar room to the Oval Office."

I wonder if those journeys occur nightly?

Thanks for the war. Love, Iran

Sun Jun 19, 2005 at 08:22:10 PM PDT

Is Bush really as stupid as he appears?

He must be.

"I say to Bush: `Thank you,"' quipped Intelligence Minister Ali Yunesi. "He motivated people to vote in retaliation."

The sharp barbs from President Bush were widely seen in Iran as damaging to pro-reform groups because the comments appeared to have boosted turnout among hard-liners in Friday's election...

The president's words sounded too much like the prewar rhetoric against Saddam, and many on-the-fence voters were shocked into action, said Abdollah Momeni, a political affairs expert at Tehran University. “People faced a dilemma,” Mr. Momeni said. “In people's minds it became a choice between voting or giving Bush an excuse to attack.”
My real question after the fold.

Genesis 1:28 minus one word = Pave the world!

Thu May 05, 2005 at 02:42:29 PM PDT

Genesis 1:28 (King James Version)
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Too bad the King of Lies has chosen to ignore the 'replenish' part.

Shrink, I want to kill.

Sat Mar 19, 2005 at 09:05:56 AM PDT

Those words (actually the whole shrink's office rant from Alice's Restaurant) came to mind when I heard the sad news about the lonesome death of 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford.

OK... Death Penalty bad. I get that. Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord. I get that.

On the other hand, think of this little girl's last memory: a piece of crap like John Couey raping her and then ending her bright, little life.

And now WE're going to pick up the tab for sustaining HIS pathetic life?
