Sinclair & Politcal Ads

Tue Oct 12, 2004 at 07:09:27 PM PDT

Our local Sinclair affiliate, WGGB in Springfield MA, seems to have been offering lower prices on political ads than other local media outlets.

I was surprised this evening to discover that a local Dem candidate had been planning on purchasing air time on a Sinclair affiliate.  Fortunately, I mentioned the boycott and discussed the issues.  Please, please make sure your local Dem candidates are kept up to date on what Sinclair is planning.  Many candidates and their staff may not know what is going on.  Contact them directly and give them some background on why it is not in their best interests to deal with Sinclair.

Check out the AP debate template on Atrios.  Does this leave any doubt about the predetermined nature of this event?  Only the best bloggers are going to catch th media in their mistakes!  Thank you Atrios, Kos, etc.  Nice job.

A Happy Birthday from the White House

Sat Jul 10, 2004 at 10:10:56 AM PDT

I came home yesterday to find a surprise in the mail:  a birthday card  from the White House.  I kid you not.  There were only a few problems with this:  My name isn't Charles and it most certainly is not my birthday.  The card, with a lovely embossed White House Seal, suggests that my day be filled with happy memories and bright hopes.  It is lovingly signed by George and Laura Bush.

I have many questions regarding this concept:  Are my tax dollars being spent on birthday cards?  Shouldn't the card say something like "I'm desperate to be elected.  You are so important to me, I'm willing to do anything to show that I actually give a rats ass about you"? Isn't there some violation of FEC laws going on here if the card isn't signed "Shrub/Horse Face '04"?

Has anyone else received this crap?  I live in a predominantly wealthy, almost all white, Republican suburb.  Has anyone received one of these in a predominantly black, low income neighborhood?  Here's a newsflash for George and Laura:  My bright hopes are focused on seeing both of you return to your fake, photo-op ranch in Crawford where you will hopefully eat pretzels on a daily basis.
