NPR story: Bush's policies strengthen Al Qaida in Iraq, too.
Fri May 16, 2008 at 11:30:00 AM PDT
Obama is right about Bush, and he can further make the point that Bush has strengthened Al Qaida in Iraq.
This morning on NPR, there was a story about how the US military is releasing Iraqi detainees for many reasons. One of which is that the detention camps were becoming training grounds for Insurgents.
Iraqi detention camps served as Al Qaida training

I am temporarily back from the dead. I am in bed (alone, sniff sniff) after twisting my ankle and not even America's Next Top Model is on.
So I thought I'd share with you some thoughts about the movie "Horton Hears a Who"...and link to one of the best commentaries on feminism I have ever heard.

I started posting here when I heard that Sinclair Broadcasting was going to post the revisionist history of John Kerry's swiftboating experience right before the election.
I googled Sinclair and got a dKospedia page that was so informed and complete. I joined Daily Kos right away and joined the fight to stop the airing. We blocked it successfully. What a rush.
But now I have to leave. I cannot stand what is happening here. Today's front page on Obama was the worst thing I have ever seen here.
Undocumented immigrants 8x less likely to commit crimes
Tue Feb 26, 2008 at 08:23:28 AM PDT
Study finds immigrants commit less crime
People born outside the United States make up about 35 percent of California's adult population but account for about 17 percent of the adult prison population, the report by the Public Policy Institute of California showed.
I've Decided
Thu Jan 31, 2008 at 09:05:26 PM PDT
I have been agonizing about who to vote for on Super Tuesday. I am really excited about Hil and about Obama...and my dream would be to have both of them on the ticket.
But alas, I have to make a choice, and thus I have.
I am voting for Obama, and the debate helped me decide.
Why McCain WON'T beat Hillary or Obama
Sun Jan 20, 2008 at 10:09:59 AM PDT
Looking at the polls, I was not worried about McCain. I thought the GOP would NEVER allow him to win the nod. Actually they may still not allow it. But let's assume they do allow it.
10 months out, the polls currently show McCain winning against Hillary and Obama in a general election.
First of all, this is 10 months out, and McCain has really been a sleeper win. He has been under the radar. People will get to know the straight talker, and his campaign will reveal just how liberal America actually is.
Why?
Rove calls Obama "trash-talking"
Thu Jan 10, 2008 at 11:41:34 AM PDT
OK. This is what race-baiting really looks like:
Karl (spit spit) Rove has a new op-ed piece which discusses why Hillary won.
In speaking of Obama's comment "She's likeable enough"he says the following:
Her remarks helped wash away the memory of her angry replies to attacks at the debate's start. His trash talking was an unattractive carryover from his days playing pickup basketball at Harvard, and capped a mediocre night.
What are you listening to?
Thu Dec 27, 2007 at 09:49:33 PM PDT
A friend of mine gave me the CD Michael Franti and Spearhead's "Yell Fire" and another friend of mine gave me Groundation's Hebron Gate.
Awesome albums.
Then my father of all people introduced me to Pandora.com (the music genome project) where you can type in a band and they play a radio station filled with similar music and similarly influenced music.

Gore for President 2008???
Wed Oct 17, 2007 at 10:07:10 AM PDT
Is that what you are waiting for? That Gore will sweep in and fix the planet? Are you working your ass off to convince him to run?
How about recognizing this:
HE IS ALREADY LEADING.
By working for him to change his focus, you are working against him
Your time would be better spent working on the Climate Crisis directly.
Hillary voted against CAFTA
Mon Oct 08, 2007 at 10:33:36 AM PDT
Today is a very sad day. Today Costa Ricans voted to approve the Cantral American Free Trade Agreement by a margin of 52 -48%, roughly the same margin that voted for the conservative party in the last presidential election.
This morning, I read an opinion piece by David Sirota about CAFTA and Costa Rica (which he wrote before the vote results were in, apparently).

TYSK: What Liberals Really Think of Republicans
Sun Sep 16, 2007 at 02:34:32 PM PDT
Dear GOP;
I Thought You Should Know what liberals really think of you.
I hate to break it to you all, but your worst nightmares are true. Liberals really do think you all have useless penises and are compensating by buying big missiles and pointing them at smaller countries and people.
Liberals really do think you should forget all of this killing business and have healthy open and out sex more. If you are not gay, let HER be on top for once. Believe me, it will solve more problems than one.
Rumors that Condoleeza Rice is liberal (updated)
Sat Sep 15, 2007 at 04:37:15 PM PDT
Important Update: citizenx just alerted me that Rice is also known to speak French
A new round of outings of high-profile Republicans is occurring, and the most recent person caught up in this is none other than Secretary of State Condolezza Rice. WP Reporter Glen Kessler reveals the information that causes one to raise questions in his new book about her.
Robert Scheer: Hiroshima, Nagasaki were US terrorism.
Thu Aug 09, 2007 at 08:19:47 PM PDT
I hope everyone has had the opportunity to read today's Robert Scheer article, entitled:
The Ultimate Weapon of Terror
In it, Scheer discusses new footage and papers released by the US government regarding the decision made to drop atom bombs on the civilian cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The memos and official papers give lie to many of the rationalizations we have all heard.
Additionally, Scheer discusses the new HBO documentary "White Light, Black Rain" which I think every American should watch.

Have a profound effect in 10 min: citizen lobby effort: ACTION
Sun Jul 08, 2007 at 08:59:59 AM PDT
California is a leader in the reduction of greenhouse gas emmissions. Where California goes, some of the world, at least, follows.
Right now, Arnold is trying to backpedal his promise for a green California. He is trying to greenwash us.
But the California Assembly is trying to stop him. They aren't used to being contacted, few people pay attention to them that are not paid lobbyists. Because of this, if you call or e-mail Fabian Nunez about the following issue, you will have a profound effect.
The California Assembly need to know that we are behind them as they hold Arnold's feet to the fire. Consider the following:
Schwarzenegger Sells Us Out Again on the Environment
Sat Jul 07, 2007 at 10:04:56 AM PDT
Update: Goddamn it, just what does it take to get some attention around here????? Do I have to have a meltdown? Arnold is trying to fuck up some real change in California, and the effects will be felt around the world.
This morning's SF Chronicle headline above the fold states:
Ex-official of air board says pressure was intense
Governor's office accused of 'interference' on emissions
Matthew Yi, Chronicle Sacramento Bureau
(07-07) 04:00 PDT Sacramento -- A former executive officer of the California Air Resources Board told state lawmakers Friday that the governor's office has unleashed a "cascade of interference" to dissuade the air board from aggressively implementing plans to fight global warming.
Action Alert: Put Environmental Ed. in NCLB standards!
Wed Jun 27, 2007 at 04:16:32 PM PDT
Let's put our Democratic majority to use folks. Please recommend this e-mail from the NCSE (National Council for Science and the Environment) I just received from my Ecological Society of America Listserv.
Environmental Education and the No Child Left Behind Act
ACTION ALERT
Urge Congress to Authorize Environmental
Education in the "No Child Left Behind Act"
As a member of the Campaign for Environmental
Literacy, the National Council for Science and
the Environment, encourages you to speak out on
this opportunity. The federal No Child Left
Behind Act (NCLB) is up for
reauthorization. This presents a golden
opportunity for Congress to include environmental
education (EE) in the new version of this
far-reaching education legislation that impacts schools nationwide.
We urge you to take action now! The House
Committee on Education and Labor is considering
language that supports EE in the latest proposed
bill, expected to be voted on during the week of July 9
