Forgotten Districts: CA-19

Sat Sep 24, 2005 at 01:46:04 PM PDT

The 50 state strategy brings allot of hope to those of us who are have been fighting for a Democratic Congress. But for those of us who live in the forgotten districts it still brings little hope for a change of are representation.

I live in CA-19:

California's 19th congressional district is one of the poor foothill districts. The district includes Tuolumne, Mariposa, and Madera Counties and some of Stanislaus and Fresno Counties. The real heart of the District is the town of Sonora, recently featured on NBC's new show Three Wishes, I never thought I'd live to see the day Sonora got on national television.

How to Kill an Elephant

Thu Jun 02, 2005 at 01:04:40 PM PDT

Theirs a beast out there trampling all over the United States. A large evil elephant is ruining the country that elephants name is GOP. But how can we kill this seemingly unbeatable beast? Well first we must understand the the GOP.

The GOP is made up of many components some small some large and some can actually survive if cut off from the party. Lets began with the basic components.

Money Coffers : This component of the GOP is vital to its survival and power, Money is what it uses to direct run and perform every little function the GOP needs in essences its the GOP's Life blood. This Component if made in effective or its money supplies weaken or cut off it would render the GOP Powerless. But before you go attacking it directly, the GOP's Rove component will kill that before it got off the ground.

More GOP Dirty tricks

Wed Jun 01, 2005 at 11:41:40 AM PDT

Well we all know about the Republican voting machines. And thanks to us several states now have laws in place requiring Verified paper ballots. But let that not fool you the RNC still has dirty tricks up its sleeve.

Voter suppression is one of there tactics but now they have a far more dangerous version of it. The new game is Voter Registration. It seems rather unassuming; after all, who could object to keeping accurate records of voter information?

The new databases are to be linked to the master records in the State Capitol and will be linked from there to other state agencies such as the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. There are Loop holes galore throughout this process, and the election officials typically would have no idea what is happening to their databases. It would be to easy to tamper with the information, to render voters ineligible, Like Democrat voters for example.

Santorum Takes Money From Stem Cell Researchers

Mon May 30, 2005 at 03:12:22 PM PDT

This is from the DSCC blog.

Question of the Day for Rick Santorum: Can Stem Cell Research Cure Hypocrisy?

Senator Rick Santorum this week re-emphasized his opposition to stem cell research, stating that he was "disheartened" to learn that the House of Representatives voted to expand stem cell research and that he does "not support taxpayer funding for scientific research that involves the destruction of human embryos." Yet Santorum had no problem accepting $55,500 in campaign contributions from companies that conduct stem cell research.

Governor to get package of election reform over GOP protest

Sun May 29, 2005 at 11:48:42 AM PDT

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. The Illinois House sent the governor a package of election reforms that Republicans complained will help elect Democrats. The measure would require the creation of voters' guides, allow time off of work for voting in some circumstances and require colleges to include voter information in registration materials. Chicago Democratic Representative Barbara Flynn Currie says the bill would expand opportunities for people to participate in elections. But Republican David Winters of Shirland says it contains--quote--"every wish list and grab bag" for Democrats to increase the votes they get. Danville Republican Bill Black says it opens the door to voter fraud. http://www.kwqc.com/Global/story.asp?S=3404612

The GOP will use the Army Base Closers as an 06' issue.

Sat May 14, 2005 at 08:34:05 AM PDT

130+ base closings announced.

Base closings affecting Democratic districts as well as republicans ones.

The media says that the base closings are not political for this reason.

The media talks about how certain Repubs will fight to keep bases open.

People think, oh the soldiers will hate Repubs now for the same reason they hated Clinton.

But wait, all might not be as it seems. Next in this fight.

The Democratic Agenda: May/8/05 Edition

Sun May 08, 2005 at 07:05:45 PM PDT

Thanks to some suggestions and numerous complaints about the Democratic agenda or lack there of I have decided to do a series of diaries with updates about the ever so unknown Democratic Agenda. And since there seems to be a general view that we got nothing I take it upon myself to report to you every possible detail I can muster and find until Howard Dean gets the new DNC website up that will hopefully have and "Agenda"or "Issues" section.

In the Senate:
In Short the Agenda is as follows Security, Opportunity, Responsibility. You read it load and clear, so if someone asks, theres a short and simple one line answer.

The Democratic Agenda is....

Sat May 07, 2005 at 04:51:38 PM PDT

This diary is in response to another one of those "the Dems need an agenda" diaries. I'm sick and tired of those and the misinformed people who right them. Its as if you've never looked or tried to look. The Democrat Agenda, click on the "issues" button and you'll see a list with all the talking points you need it also includes the names and numbers of each senate bill.

here is a shortened list of some of the favorites.

S.11: Guard and Reserve Bill of Rights.

S. 12: Targets the Terrorists More Effectively.

S. 13: Fulfilling Our Duty to America's Veterans.

S. 14: Expanding Economic Opportunity.

S. 15: Quality Education for All.

S. 17: Democracy Begins at Home.

so please next time you have doubts about the Democratic Agenda or those GOP talking points start sounding true just look up the agenda on the Internet.

ALERT: Help the DCCC Hammer the Hammer

Fri Apr 22, 2005 at 08:04:55 PM PDT

From the DCCC:

For his history of intimidation and arm-twisting, DeLay is known affectionately by his allies as "The Hammer." Now it's time to Hammer the Hammer once and for all.

The DCCC has set an aggressive goal of $250,000 for its HAMMER THE HAMMER FUND.

Your contributions to the Fund will make it possible for the DCCC to do radio, television, mail, and other communications - to shine the light on the shady practices of Tom DeLay and the House Republicans who follow his lead to the detriment of ordinary Americans.

Help us make the case for change. We can't do it without your help.

We need to show them what the grassroots can do. (Wow I'm just filled with Activism tonight and hatred for Tom Delay.)

He knows allot and has a time tested strategy, Divide and Conquer is one and his open charge way of doing it. Now lets thing and lets cover his strategies and cover some counter strategies and maybe find a way to Counter Karl Rove.

Special Report: Army Reservist Witnesses War Crimes

Sat Apr 02, 2005 at 08:52:10 PM PDT

April 1, 2005--Aiden Delgado, an Army Reservist in the 320th Military Police Company, served in Iraq from April 1, 2003 through April 1, 2004. After spending six months in Nasiriyah in Southern Iraq, he spent six months helping to run the now-infamous Abu Ghraib prison outside of Baghdad. The handsome 23-year-old mechanic was a witness to widespread, almost daily, U.S. war crimes in Iraq. His story contains new revelations about ongoing brutality at Abu Ghraib, information yet to be reported in national media.

I first met Delgado in a classroom at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California, where he presented a slide show on the atrocities that he himself observed in Southern and Northern Iraq. Delgado acknowledged that the U.S. military did some good things in Iraq. "We deposed Saddam, built some schools and hospitals," he said. But he focused his testimony on the breakdown of moral order within the U.S. military, a pattern of violence and terror that exceeds the bounds of what is legally and morally permissible in time of war.

How to frame the Social Security debate

Wed Mar 30, 2005 at 07:01:08 PM PDT

So remember: America once had a fully privatized system. It failed. That is why we have Social Security. It doesn't make anyone rich, but it prevents many people from being poor. "Personal accounts" are just a slick way of saying: "Tough; you're on your own!"

Many observers, though, hold progressives to a higher standard than they do conservatives. They say it isn't enough to criticize Mr. Bush's proposals; it isn't enough to say merely, "don't do anything." Well, sometimes that should be enough. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

ALERT: The Georgia Republican Party is assaulting voting rights

Fri Mar 25, 2005 at 09:27:48 PM PDT

(Atlanta) The Georgia Republican Party is assaulting voting rights. They are trying to make it harder to vote in Georgia than anywhere in the United States. They are trying to dilute black voting strength in Georgia's Congressional Districts. This is a "New Georgia" indeed.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia Republicans are trying to "make Georgia the toughest place in the nation to vote." Requiring a picture ID would "have a disproportionate impact on poor folks and the elderly." The editorial points out that there is "no evidence of rampant voter fraud." And the area not addressed by the GOP? "(T)he rules governing voter registration and absentee balloting, where there is no ID requirement of any kind." [Editorial: "Vote `no' on photo Ids; Proposed state election reform is discriminatory and may not reduce the opportunities for fraud," Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 3/22/2005]

Norquist: WW2 Generation "Un-American"

Tue Mar 15, 2005 at 05:23:31 PM PDT

Have you read Grover Norquist's view of "the Greatest Generation", the one that lived through the Depression and made real sacrifices to fight WW2? Jonathan Chait subbing for Josh Marshal at Talking Points Memo relays
Grover Norquist: This is an age cohort that voted for a draft before the war started, and allowed the draft to continue for 25 years after the war was over. Their idea of the legitimate role of the state is radically different than anything previous generations knew, or subsequent generations."
