American Democracy has been in the process of being put to death by a very slow drip of radical right wing ideology for the past few decades. Some call it Fascism, some call it Theocracy, some call it Right Wing Totalitarianism; I'll just call it Neo-Conism, since it seems to be a new blend of the worst of the worst of the twentieth century, ideologically speaking.
Of course, they have the benefit of seeing where all those other MF's of history failed in their message, so they've been able to adjust it enough to keep all the hate below the surface so as not to be noticed by the impenetrable stupid gaze of the media. It slipped through in New Orleans, but that was simply a result of the media talking heads standing knee deep in bodies.
I think we've finally reached the point where it may be dawning on the Democratic leadership that the greatest threat to American Democracy is the Bush administration. Unfortunately, the CMSM doesn't have a problem with that. As such, the Democrats are going to need a strategy to cut through the media bullshit (Liars for Bush) and do so in a way that effects government.
Stay the course. We hear that from Republicans and Democrats these days, in regard to Iraq. Unfortunately, it is an absolutely horrible idea and the fact that many Democrats pander to this right wing meme is disheartening. To understand this, we must first ask, "What is the course?" Answered below the fold:
I've been thinking a lot about our society lately and how it is structured, in terms of power. I've been thinking of just how we are controlled and what it is we as a nation actually believe. I expect that a lot of what I post here will be somewhat controversial, but I hope it will at least spark some thought.
What I have determined is that America is a nation of addicts and sacrificial offerings. I have come to the conclusion that although our country was founded on the principal of Democracy it is actually governed by money, not the rule of law.
For the past twenty five years the Republican party has been planning and enacting into law a take down of the middle class. This isn't an accident. Ever since FDR enacted programs that work for all of the people, not just the wealthy few, those who feel entitled have felt threatened by the dissolution of their power over others, mainly the lower classes. Such safety nets have allowed more choices for those in the lower classes in the ability it offered them to empower their selves. (Cont'd)
The Bush administration and the wingers want us to stay since they want to control the oil and never make mistakes. Also, some people here see it as our moral obligation to the Iraqi people for what we have done to them to stay. I sort of agree with that line of thinking, but do I think it is possible? Yes. Just not with people like George Bush and Dick Cheney running the country. We could set this right. We just can't do it with the leadership we have now and as we spin our wheels hoping for a solution, more bodies are being ground up under those wheels on both sides. As such;
As things stand now, we aren't pulling out now, at will, because that's tantamount to defeat and "Bush" stay's the course. He's tough, just ask him.
We will be getting out sooner, rather than later. Why? Read on.
WarningThis is my first diary entry, so please keep the flame throwers set to medium ;)
I've been reading many of the posts here since Bush stole the second election (See Greg Palast) and I realize many of these posts are really just to try and keep us focused until we overcome the rage and depression. I think that's good because we definitely need that. I'm just now starting to recover from the trauma.
However, what I find troubling is the fact that many here think because we are having trouble in Iraq, the economy is in serious trouble, and the majority of Bush's policies are lessons in abject failure that this is somehow a big "plus" for those of us living in the reality based community. As this election just demonstrated, it may be a "plus", but it is isn't enough. As a result, I think we are trapping ourselves in a bubble of our own consensus reality that keeps us from truly being able to fight the political battles we are losing. Because it just seems so "obvious" to us.
