Daily Kos

Political Party food--Martha Stewart Edition

Wed Oct 20, 2004 at 11:18:10 AM PDT

Everyone is obsessively giddy and/or worried and nailbiting here at Dailykos, including me. I'm feeling perky, worried, obsessed, firedup and insane all at once.  However, I also feel we should sometimes take a break from obsessively clicking the electoral calculator and reading online poll analysis now and again, hence this diary.

Also, I'm lazy and would like some of the famous Dkos wits to assist me here. I am throwing a "Political Party" Nov 2nd and want some ideas for politically themed snacks....

help me debunk this stupid email LONG

Wed Oct 13, 2004 at 09:35:35 AM PDT

I've ignored and ignored my idiot friends and idiot family and idiot coworkers emailing me stupid Clinton conspiracies and Kerry attack lies for years now. Usually they're written by idiots who spell worse than me, and the content is moronic and beneath contempt. So I hit delete.

However, I am so fired up I can't sit on my hands anymore. I recently made a plege to myself that for every 1 dumb bush email I got that attacked kerry or liberals in general, I'd send 3 out to everyone I know with the facts. The good news is, my family has learned their lesson. The bad, my friends think it's funny now and forward me ALL the dumb bush emails THEY get.

Edwards on Larry King

Wed Sep 22, 2004 at 09:36:03 PM PDT

John Edwards was just on Larry King, and I just wanted to get a note in on my personal reaction to him.

(spelling and capitalization alert, btw. don't be cranky with me, it's been a long day)

I realized as i sat there listening, he puts me into a love-trance! He DOES! and i'm a big ole lesbo! It's even worse than when I would watch clinton. Edwards might be a more gifted politician than Clinton. Honest. He's got the entrancement/charisma factor, and less of the moral ambiguity than the big dog. It's scary, and wonderful of course, but scary that some politicians can have this effect on people.

a few notes:
he's obviously controlling his smile more these days, less of the entire dental display and more of a small, charming, but still weirdly serious smile. nice.

He hit great talking points, got a couple out of the park. Complemented our troops, mentioned friday night football, and still called iraq a disaster, with details. His identification with the mill workers that george bush has 'really messed up' is great. He also is fearsomely intelligent in his responses. Of course i was in a love trance, so i am biased.

Also, larry king was quite deferential. Really really nice to the guy. Obviously larry loves him a little bit too.

On a side note, during a break i saw that retarded 'big kahuna' windsurfing/flip flopper attack ad against Kerry. Could that possibly be a dem plant add? because it's completely stupid. it'll turn everyone off but the ball scratching idiots that are absolutely for bush anyhow.

And we seem to be reaching a tipping point in the 'flip flopper' attacks...i've been holed up in a hotel for the past week watching the talking heads. And i've noticed a bit of ridicule seeps out of an anchor/moderator when someone says kerry is a flip flopper. I know that there are saturation points when you repeat something too much -- it becomes meaningless and even ridiculous. Could we be reaching that?

another thing. does larry wear lipstick? Cause he should lay off the pretty 'n pink if so. he looks weird.

I'd love to hear other reactions to Edwards, that idiot add, or the fact that i can't be bothered to press the ctrl key.

should Kerry speak Arabic?

Fri Aug 27, 2004 at 12:21:37 PM PDT

Remember when Dukakis broke into spanish during his convention (if i remember correctly) ? Now all the politicians do it; be it pandering or be it respect for a big chunk of the electorate. Really, most of the ones who do it can't speak it, but will eke out a few phrases in a stump speech occasionally (and Chimpy speaks pidgin spanish, if at all).

Best debate Question?

Tue Jul 13, 2004 at 03:25:38 PM PDT

I love politics, but I have developed a love/hate relationship with presidential debates. Either the questioner is lobbing softballs (usually at Bush) or they're WAY too generalized and/or without substance. I wish the DailyKos readers could submit questions. Say you were able to submit questions for one of the debates between Kerry / Bush.

What kind of questions would you ask that would either a.) get a real answer from either guy or b.) show either one of the candidates strengths or weaknesses off for the world to see?

Maybe a contest? Best question gets a gmail invite!
