As a movement anchored in the affirmation of the equal dignity of all human beings, We must against racism in all its forms. For many years, I have heard my neighbors express their anger at the police violence, their fear for their loved ones, their pain and their loss. They drew on their experiences to sound the alarm again, still in the hope that real change would eventually happen. Today, the general protests hope to highlight the need to put an immediate end to racism and chronic police violence.
Together, as a movement, progressives need to stand as one and show our outrage at the murder of George Floyd. We need to reaffirm our commitment to work tirelessly for positive social and structural change and to take responsibility for our personal and collective role in order to steer, once and for all, the path of our nation towards justice and equality.
It is with great humility, inspiration and emotion that we receive the power of the many voices raised to demand that the death of George Floyd transform our society. More and more people across America are finally listening to the voices that have sounded the alarm for generations; more and more of us are finally realizing that when we oppose the life and freedom of the few, it is actually those of all that we hinder more and more of us are finally ready to take a stand. Perhaps for the first time, peace and justice could really be within our reach.
I am more determined than ever to help build on top of the movement that has started. We need urgent changes, and to do it from and with the people most affected.
