Native voters are committed to electing Democrats to protect our freedoms. On Sovereign Lands across northern Arizona, the Northeast Arizona Native Democrats team is getting ready to re-elect Joe Biden. The stakes too high to allow any event to change our votes. Out team is dedicated to electing Democrats to protect the progress made in our communities.
As mentioned in a previous article, our organizers Loren and Casey, supported by family and community members in White Clay and Kayenta, have been tirelessly educating voters on the power of their vote. Despite the Arizona Republican-controlled state legislature proposing bills to make it harder for Indigenous and rural voters to cast their ballots, we have demonstrated our strength as a powerful voting bloc in Arizona.
Democrats have made significant strides in supporting our communities. They voted for the American Rescue Plan Act, addressing crucial infrastructure needs, and passed the largest climate crisis mitigation package through the Inflation Reduction Act, funding critical flood and drought and mitigation plan sin our region. Democrats also voted to protect a woman's right to reproductive healthcare and bodily autonomy. We know only one party will support those living in remote Arizona, so we are in the field daily to make the ballot box accessible to our community members.
Please consider making a contribution to our team to keep us in the field until election day.
Looking ahead to 2024, we are focused on re-electing Joe Biden, electing Reuben Gallego to the Senate, and electing Jonathan Nez as Arizona's first Indigenous Congressman. On the Ground, we emphasize the importance of down-ballot races, where electing extremists could have severe consequences for rural and remote communities. Electing Democrats to our County Board of Supervisors, County Attorney, County Recorder and County Treasurer significantly impacts these communities.
We understand the impact of local officials and why our team remains unwavering in our 2024 mission. Project 2025 poses a terrifying threat to tribal sovereignty and communities nationwide. With only a few months until election, our team is committed to ensuring every voter in Northeast Arizona receives a reminder to vote for every Democrat on their ballot and understands the importance of every vote cast.
The Navajo County Democrats and Northeast Arizona Native Democrats have a clear plan to counter these attacks on voting rights:
- We Keep organizing
- We invest in ourselves by hiring local organizers to reach our communities
- We know our power — we’ve flexed it and can do it again and again.
- We continue registering our people and talking with voters about how to stop Republican voter suppression efforts.
- We keep communicating through online and offline strategies.
- We support and uplift our women, especially our Indigenous Matriarchs.
Three years ago, we launched our grassroots Family Votes program, an initiative that recruits and trains Indigenous Matriarchs to register their families and communities to vote. Women make the best advocates and organizers because they lead their families and communities. Since 2020, we’ve been changing the narrative by investing in our moms, daughters, aunties, and grandmas-our matriarchs.
To date, this investment has resulted in:
- Recruiting more than 400 Family Votes Matriarchs on Navajo, Hopi, and White Mountain Apache Lands.
- Registering over 175 new family members to vote for the first time.
- Hosting trainings and matriarchs conversations in over 30 communities.
Please consider supporting our Northeast Arizona Native Democrats team so that we can reach out to even more voters.
Indigenous, Black, and Brown voters want change, and we are vocal about it. Moving everyone forward together should be the norm. Thank you for standing with Native and rural voters in Arizona and making a significant early investment in Native-led organizing. This work is essential to creating a stronger Democratic Party in Arizona.
